SUMMARY:
The Adjunct Clinical Instructor for the Surgical Technology Program at Dorsey College is responsible for providing clinical instruction and supervision to students enrolled in the program. This includes ensuring the fulfillment of educational goals objectives and outcomes and ensuring program compliance with regulatory and accreditation agencies as applicable. The Adjunct Instructor will work closely with the Program Director and Clinical Coordinator to provide a comprehensive educational experience for students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provide clinical instruction and supervision to students in various clinical settings.
Evaluate and assess student performance and competencies during clinical rotations.
Maintain accurate records of student attendance performance and competencies.
Ensure that students adhere to all clinical site policies and procedures.
Provide feedback and guidance to students to enhance their learning experience.
Assist with the coordination of clinical site placements and schedules.
Conduct clinical orientations and debriefings with students.
Serve as a liaison between the clinical sites and the Surgical Technology Program.
Collaborate with the Program Director and Clinical Coordinator to ensure the quality and
effectiveness of the clinical education component.
Participate in curriculum development and review as needed.
Stay current with developments in the field of surgical technology and incorporate new knowledge
into clinical instruction.
Teach surgical technology classes as needed.
Attend faculty meetings and professional development sessions as required.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES:
Strong clinical skills and knowledge in the field of surgical technology.
Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
Ability to provide constructive feedback and support to students.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Familiarity with regulatory and accreditation agency policies as applicable.
Commitment to maintaining high standards of clinical education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate degree in surgical technology or a related field.
Current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
At least three years of clinical experience in the field of surgical technology (CAAHEP requirement).
Previous teaching experience preferred but not required.
Proficient in clinical instruction supervision and evaluation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORKING CONDITIONS:
Travel to clinical sites as required.
May be required to work hours outside of normal business hours to meet the needs of the program.
