Job Description

Summary

The Packaging Project Engineer will provide technical leadership for packaging initiatives including new product development product renovation quality improvements productivity (cost savings) and sustainability initiatives. The Packaging Engineer is responsible to identify lead develop and execute solutions for new packaging and changes to existing packaging. The individual will work closely with crossfunctional partners including Marketing Sales Operations Robotic/Automation Supply Chain Procurement and to ensure that all projects meet key performance indicators for quality financial budgets and timeline goals.

Primary Focus

  • Manage daily packaging design and optimization projects for assigned product categories.
  • Oversee all aspects of package development and validation managing the work plans for projects assigned.
  • Shared owner of the consumer experience around our food products namely key owner of the packaging experience
  • Translate insights and business needs into packaging opportunities that will improve consumer experience and elevate Company brands.
  • Lead packaging development (primary secondary & shipment/transportation) and propose changes across existing product lines (improvements in quality productivity and cost optimization)
  • Minimize schedule and technical risk by foreseeing and addressing obstacles proactively and aggressively while effectively managing resources.
  • Communicate and collaborate with all stakeholders and other functions (R&D teams Automation Engineering Quality Operations Finance) to ensure project objectives are clearly defined and achieved.
  • Provide decisive and effective technical leadership to the organization.
  • Ensure that key project deliverables and schedules are met on time and on budget. Conduct design reviews to ensure design is aligned with overall objectives.
  • Leverage experience and strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with sales operations and customer service.
  • Ensure packaging designs are the best possible to guarantee product integrity reliability and cost effectiveness.
  • Provides technical expertise and manufacturing support for successful development and manufacture of new products and changes to existing packaging.
  • Provides packaging specifications and associated work procedures to maintain customer quality requirements.
  • Read and analyze the specifications from the customer.
  • Make sure to obtain the necessary inputs for the projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for identifying packaging requirements and translating these to commercial solutions from inception through implementation.
  • Identify and support packaging optimization and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Review of packaging materials identifying modifications to design material or processes to enable efficient manufacturing.
  • Develop and publish packaging specifications acceptance testing criteria and manufacturing work procedures as required to maintain quality.
  • Aid in troubleshooting and improvement of packaging systems.
  • Research and investigate new packaging technology and processes as required.
  • Deliver results when expected in accordance with project schedules.
  • Provides technical assistance as needed by internal customers.
  • Define key performance indicators and objectives.
  • Define scope timeline budget for assigned projects.
  • Manage projects within defined scope timeline budget and acceptance criteria.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree (Packaging Engineering preferred) or equivalent proven work experience in packaging development and implementation.
  • Minimum 510 years of packaging engineering experience.
  • Experience in fast moving consumer products or business to business industries that require supporting high quality short lead time customer driven initiatives.
  • Indepth knowledge of the food and packaging industry includes trends for sustainability and technological advancement.
  • Familiar and competent in lean manufacturing principles
  • Certified Project Manager (CPM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) a plus.
  • Ability to work on a crossfunctional team including sales marketing engineering and field services.
  • Position requires ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Ability to work in standard computer programs for ERP systems Office products (Word & Excel) and CAPE or Tops software
  • Ability to understand develop and make improvements to packaging flow and sequence of operations.
  • Ability to manage priorities.
  • Ability to work in a team environment. The position requires collaboration with multiple resources (Engineering production management suppliers vendors customers);
  • Good analytical and organizational skills.
  • Dynamic and responsible person with a good sense of work organization.
  • Team spirit rigor creativity and versatility.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to travel 60 as necessary to ensure successful project implementation and startup.
