POSITION SUMMARY:

The job of School Psychologist is done for the purpose of assessing students for special education eligibility and consultation with school staff and parents regarding positive student interventions and support plans. The School Psychologist provides relevant services as well as consultation to staff providing special education services. The job of the School Psychologist also includes assessing students intellectual and functional levels; developing recommendations for behavior plans and student placement; assisting in program development and implementation; providing social and emotional skill building support; collaborating with school personnel and community agencies as a member of a team to address the educational needs of children; and ensuring that multicultural and bilingual needs are addressed throughout assessment and service delivery. This position reports to the Director of Student Services or designated administrator and does not supervise any employees.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assessment Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate students eligibility for special education services.
  • Assess students functional capabilities and/or classroom environment for the purpose of determining students functional level and developing recommendations and/or placement.
  • Prepare a wide variety of written materials (i.e. assessment reports correspondence for the purpose of documenting activities providing written reference and/or conveying information) in a timely manner.
  • Awareness of multicultural and second language best practice when conducting assessments.

SchoolWide Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with students parents teachers and/or other personnel for the purpose of conducting functional behavioral assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Support Plans (BSPs)
  • Research resources and methods (i.e. intervention and treatment techniques assessment tools and methods community resources etc. for the purpose of determining the appropriate approach for addressing students functional goals.
  • Consult on a variety of school and district teams including tiered intervention teams regarding student services and supports.
  • Supervise interns practicum students and others for the purpose of monitoring performance providing for professional growth and achieving overall objectives of the schools curriculum.
  • Counsel students who are in the special education process parents and guardians for the purpose of enhancing student success in school.
  • Consult with teachers parents other personnel and/or outside professionals for the purpose of providing requested information developing plans for services and/or making recommendations.
  • Collaborate with a variety of roles including teachers specialists administrators to best support students.
  • Responsible for participating in district suicide prevention initiatives including administering screeners and contributing to support planning.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain consistent and predictable attendance to meet the requirements of the position.
  • Participate in various meetings for the purpose of receiving information or sharing information and expertise with students colleagues and parents/guardians
  • Confer and consult regularly with immediate supervisor
  • Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

  • Masters Degree or higher in school psychology or clinical psychology.
  • Experience and expertise in social and emotional support for students collaborative problem solving and staff development.

Skills

  • Demonstrate command of oral and written language.
  • Effective time management including: ability to prioritize and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Follow special education legal timelines.
  • General computer skills including but not limited to Google and wordprocessing skills

Knowledge

  • Knowledge/experience with standardized testing of cognitive adaptive emotional and behavioral functioning.

Abilities

  • Ability to effectively work and communicate with students parents and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds in English Spanish or other languages related to the job
  • Ability to work collaboratively to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers.
  • Ability to consult and collaborate in a positive manner as a member of a team.
  • Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students staff or district patrons; ability to maintain accurate and complete records
  • Demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior speech and dress in a neat clean and appropriate professional manner for the assignment and work setting
  • Ability to use a telephone operate a computer use other office equipment.

Licenses Certifications Bonding and/or Testing Required

  • Oregon School Psychologist TSPC License OR Licensed as Psychologist by the Oregon Board of Psychologist Examiners.
  • A valid drivers license and reliable transportation for on the job travel

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this position the employee may be required to physically interact with students who are aggressive emotional and/or unpredictable in their reactions. The employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but occasionally may be very loud. The work environment may be fast paced and emotionally demanding.
