GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


Join the Wyoming Department of Corrections to pursue an exciting field in law enforcement. We seek motivated individuals to be Correctional Officers in the Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution. This facility serves as a primary education and treatment center for inmates identified as requiring high levels of protective custody as well as those who need medical mental health dental substance abuse life skills cognitive and behavioral and/or sex offender treatment services. The Wyoming Department of Corrections operates this mediumsecurity facility.The WDOC is committed to public safety high correctional standards and a safe supportive working environment for our employees.



We now seek Correctional Officers for our institutions: This position is essential for maintaining the institutions safety and security and is considered a Law Enforcement position and is receiving a 20year retirement package. Successful candidates are awarded Correctional Officer Certification by the Wyoming Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST) Commission within one year of initial appointment and receive excellent training.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.


To maintain institutional safety standards the position requires the following:
  • Enforcement of rules and regulations.
  • Responding to post orders of varied assigned posts.
  • Supervising inmates in the performance of various jobs; modeling appropriate prosocial behavior.
  • Assisting in a variety of searches including checking for contraband items.
  • Observing daily inmate living programming work areas and the perimeter fence line reporting security violations.
  • Conducting daily scheduled counts of inmates.
  • Assuming duties of housing control centers central control centers and inmate living areas monitoring inmate movements.
  • Becoming familiar with inmate names and characteristics for easier identification of inmate movements and infractions.
  • Assisting in restraining unruly inmates utilizing the minimum amount of force required.
  • Assisting in transporting inmates within and off institution boundaries including inter and intrastate predetermined destinations.
  • Assisting in processing newly incarcerated inmates or the appropriate outprocessing of released inmates.
  • Attending required training to perform duties at an acceptable level.
  • Commitment to public safety and high correctional standards as well as a safe supportive working environment for our employees.

**Must be at least 18 years of age
**Must be a U.S. Citizen
**Must have a valid drivers license
**Must not have a felony or domestic violence conviction.


KNOWLEDGE:




MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
High School Diploma or GED
Experience:
01 year of progressive work experience in a Correctional Setting

  • The Wyoming Department of Corrections is a DrugFree Workplace. Per WDOC policy all staff are subject to drug testing while employed by WDOC. Successful applicants for employment must pass a background/reference check medical evaluation and urinalysis drug test prior to the appointment.
