Job Description

Anticipated Opening Health Assisting CTE Instructor


Description:


The Health Assisting Instructor optimizes student investment of occupational knowledge skills and achievement in preparation for success. The instructor is responsible for the success and proper delivery of the assigned Health Assisting Program and leveraging their expertise to deliver education services in order for students to achieve credential certification. This preparation is necessary to become employed or continue education in a career related to the field of Health Assisting. The Health Assisting Instructor will be responsible for students to obtain clinical hours in the proper environment needed in order to prepare and take the State Certified Nursing Exam as they exit the program.

Location: Everett High School

Required Education/Experience:

  • Licensed by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as a Vocational Technical Health Assisting Teacher
  • Bachelors Degree or higher related to the subject matter and skills to be taught.
  • Possession of current Massachusetts license as a registered nurse (RN)
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • 3 or more years of high school teaching experience in CTE
  • Experience working in an urban public school setting with high school students
  • Proficiency in reading writing and speaking in another language in addition to English.

Essential Duties:

  • Responsible for developing and implementing departmental curriculum objectives and competencies based on the Massachusetts State Framework.
  • Teach technical skills and knowledge to give students the competence to become skilled in their field.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals establishes clear objectives for all lessons units and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Responsible for the integration of curriculum where appropriate.
  • Utilize appropriate resources and educational technology to enhance student learning.
  • Assesses and documents students accomplishments regularly and provides progress reports and report cards as required.
  • Continuously improves the instruction curriculum and equipment so that this CTE area is current with all field trends and fully and properly prepares students for available and emerging jobs.
  • Assist in selecting and maintaining course materials instructional equipment and educational resources.
  • Plan organize and provide appropriate learning experiences within the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Develop lesson plans and organize class time so that demonstration instruction handson practice review and final activities can be accomplished within the allotted time.
  • Participate in developing evaluating and revising the curriculum scope and sequence and objective in collaboration with the program director.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated. Prepares materials for classes assigned.
  • Maintains accurate complete and correct records as law and district policy regulation requires.
  • Maintain appropriate records related to students attendance grades and other documents and ensure delivery to the appropriate administrator in a timely manner.
  • Promote student success by engaging students in the learning process.
  • Maintain class schedules and instructional integrity through adherence to lesson plans.
  • Facilitate student retention and placement through positive student interactions.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct and for the classroom develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure maintaining order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Maintain and improve professional competence especially as it relates to the specific assignment student grade and subject area appropriateness.
  • Develop positive relationships with community partners in the area and actively solicit their help including service on the Program Advisory Board.
  • Attends staff and department meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Available to students and families for educationrelated purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
  • Implements the districts mission philosophy of education and instructional standards and objectives.
  • Responsible for assuring equal educational opportunity to all individuals by providing culturally responsive teaching practices within the classroom.
  • Accommodate students special needs and/or those undergoing unique circumstances and reach out to atrisk students.
  • Incorporate socialemotional learning standards and curriculum that promote a sense of belonging inclusion selfconfidence teambuilding and informed decisionmaking.
  • Utilize inclusive practices and SEI strategies for multilingual learners.
  • Using evidencebased culturally and linguistically sustaining instructional practices to provide equitable opportunities for contentlevel learning.
  • Incorporate language activities that align with the WIDA Standards into content instruction including listening speaking reading and writing to meet the needs of multilingual learners.
  • Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students colleagues and families concerning both the broad academic/vocational and behavioral progress of assigned students using culturally responsive practices that foster twoway communication.
  • Other duties deemed necessary by the Director of Career & Technical Education and Principal.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • The employee must frequently stand walk sit use hands reach with hands and arms and stoop kneel crouch crawl climb and run.
  • The employee must occasionally be able to lift push pull and transport up to 35 pounds.
  • The employee must be able to work in a noisy stressful highpressure environment and still be able to concentrate and keep students safe.
  • The employee must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • The employee must be able to operate equipment and machinery independently.

Salary:

Salary for this position will be based on the Everett Teachers Association Collective Bargaining Agreement.
