Job Summary:The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the PhD or other doctoral degree under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee.

Additional Department Summary:The Metallurgical & Materials Engineering Department at The University of Alabama is a seeking candidate for a Postdoctoral position. This position is available to individuals with research interests in powder processing. The candidate will be advised by Dr. Gregory Thompson.

Successful candidates will hold a terminal degree in Materials Science & Engineering or a related field and demonstrate a record of academic achievement in research. The College and/or the Metallurgical & Materials Engineering Department will establish a series of structured meritbased evaluations. Initial appointments are for one year with renewal contingent upon availability of funding.

Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. or other terminal degree in Materials Science & Engineering or a related field.

Candidates will need to have completed their Ph.D. or have it completed by the start of employment. Skills and Knowledge:Strong analytical skills including but not limited to scanning electron microscopy transmission electron microscopy focus ion beam and Xray diffraction.

Preferred Qualifications:Experience with powder processing powder consolidation methods and characterization of materials through Xray electron and ion beam methods. Understanding of refractory alloys ultrahigh temperature ceramics and composites. Experience using physical vapor deposition platforms and/or powder consolidation methods.
