Job Description

Teacher Assistant Behavior Intervention SpecialistTruman Middle School

  • Fulltime position for theschool year
  • Schedule MondayFriday to follow Student Calendarapproximately7hours/day35hours/week
  • Hourly rate:$22.23
  • Nonexempt

  • Substitute Certificate required but Missouri Teacher Certification preferred

Summary: An InSchool Suspension Behavior Intervention TA is responsible for supervising and managing students assigned to inschool suspension (ISS) providing structured support to help students reflect on their behavior complete academic work and develop positive behavioral strategies while remaining in a controlled learning environment; this often involves working with teachers administrators and parents to create individualized plans and address underlying issues contributing to disciplinary actions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Other duties may be assigned.

  • Direct Supervision:
    Actively monitor student behavior in the ISS room ensuring a safe and productive learning environment and addressing disruptive behavior promptly.
  • Academic Support:
    Collect and distribute assigned classwork from teachers monitor student progress on assignments and provide assistance as needed to ensure students stay caught up academically.
  • Behavior Intervention:
    Facilitate discussions with students regarding their behavior helping them understand the consequences of their actions and develop strategies to make positive choices.
  • Behavior Plan Implementation:
    Execute individualized behavior plans created in collaboration with teachers administrators and parents including positive reinforcement techniques and Restorative Practice strategies.
  • Data Collection and Reporting:
    Track student behavior and academic progress through detailed documentation including daily logs and progress reports to inform interventions and communicate with relevant parties.
  • Communication and Collaboration:
    Maintain open communication with teachers administrators parents and other support staff to discuss student behavior progress and concerns.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong Behavioral Management Skills:
    Proven ability to manage challenging behaviors deescalate conflicts and implement positive reinforcement strategies effectively and restorative practices.
  • Classroom Management Expertise:
    Knowledge of classroom structure routines and effective techniques to maintain a focused learning environment.
  • Communication Skills:
    Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with students parents and colleagues clearly and professionally.
  • Crisis Intervention Skills:
    Ability to respond calmly and appropriately to crisis situations and provide necessary support.
  • Understanding of Student Development:
    Awareness of typical developmental stages and factors that may contribute to behavioral challenges.
