The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Boston Medical Center

is recruiting for a perdiem Midwife

Are you committed to providing midwifery care to marginalized communities in Boston Are you interested in joining a diverse group of talented driven midwives committed to providing exceptional care in a tertiary care center and teaching future generations of birth workers and providers The Midwives at Boston Medical Center are looking to hire a perdiem midwife to join our practice and provide inpatient care on labor and delivery triage and postpartum.

Boston Medical Center (BMC) is more than a hospital. It is a network of support and care that touches the lives of hundreds of thousands of people each year. The institution has a strong focus on public health both domestic and global and a commitment to womens health demonstrated by a robust family planning program recently renovated labor and delivery unit and plans for a birth center.

Our department and health system are committed to and focusing on eliminating racial disparities in health outcomes. Emphasizing communitybased care BMC is the largest safetynet hospital in New England and is committed to providing consistently excellent and accessible health services to all. The hospital is also the primary teaching affiliate of the nationally ranked Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine.

The midwifery service is a multicultural group of 28 midwives who together speak English Spanish Haitian Creole Cape Verdean Creole Portuguese French Arabic German and Thai. We are committed to holistic and innovative care for birthing people and their families. We have a robust Centering Pregnancy Program as well as a multicultural doula service offering home visiting and labor support (Birth Sisters).

The hospital midwifery service attends approximately 900 births per year in the labor and delivery unit. Midwives also run our busy triage unit during the day touching the lives of almost all our pregnant and birthing people. Midwives also provide care to women in four neighborhood health centers the hospital OBGYN clinic and our Adolescent Center to a population that is racially ethnically and economically diverse. The CNM hospital service includes labor and delivery coverage 24 hours/day a daily postpartum rounding service and daily coverage of our obstetrical triage unit. We work in a collaborative model with highly supportive obstetricians maternalfetal medicine doctors and family medicine physicians.

This is a clinical teaching position. Midwives at Boston Medical Center participate in the education of resident physicians medical students and midwifery students through clinical supervision throughout clinical care through didactic lectures and in the simulation lab. Interest in teaching and working with diverse teams of people is essential.

Minimum Qualifications

At least five years of midwifery experience relevant maternal/child health experience

A demonstrated commitment to racial and social justice

Active Massachusetts Midwifery license

Preferred Qualifications

Second language (Spanish Haitian Creole Cape Verdian Creole or Vietnamese) strongly preferred

Experience working with underserved populations
