Purpose Statement

The job of Resource Aide was established for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process with specific responsibilities for ensuring the safety and welfare of students during nonclassroom activities; minimizing the frequency and/or severity of harmful incidents; and communicating observations and/or incidents that have a potential impact on the general well being of students school personnel and/or visitors.

This job reports to Principal.

EssentialFunctions

  • Assists in the maintenance of playground areas (e.g. raking wood chips checking playground equipment and picking up trash etc. for the purpose of providing a safe environment.
  • Communicates safety and security policies and enforcement procedures to students staff and visitors for the purpose of ensuring their understanding of such information and the potential consequences of violation.
  • Intervenes in potential conflicts and emergency situations for the purpose of minimizing disruptions of campus activities and/or injury to involved parties.
  • Maintains a variety of files and records (e.g. schedules guidelines etc. for the purpose of ensuring the availability of information for future reference and/or audit for compliance to established policies.
  • Monitors student behavior during and between assigned periods (e.g. rest rooms playgrounds hallways library cafeteria etc. for the purpose of ensuring student compliance with established guidelines maintaining a safe and positive learning environment and secure facility.
  • Participates in unit meetings inservice training workshops etc. for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.
  • Prepares written materials (e.g. incident reports activity logs copier count report etc. for the purpose of documenting activities providing written reference and/or conveying information.
  • Processes requests for copies and copies materials for teachers and staff throughout the school site for the purpose of assisting in the overall educational program.
  • Provides coverage for other classified staff members as needed for the purpose of providing a smooth level of service to students and staff.
  • Refers incidents including personal injuries altercations suspicious activities rule violations etc. to appropriate site personnel for the purpose of ensuring followup in accordance with administrative site security and student safety guidelines.
  • Responds to a variety of situations (e.g. accidents injuries vandalism suspicious activities alarms etc. for the purpose of taking the appropriate action to resolve immediate safety and/or security concerns.
  • Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources regarding campus security issues for the purpose of providing information direction and/or referral for addressing inquiry.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform single tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skillbased competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; understand written procedures write routine documents and speak clearly; and understand multistep written and oral instructions. Specific knowledgebased competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: safety practices and procedures; child guidance practices; basic subjects taught in District schools; correct English usage grammar spelling punctuation and vocabulary.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities; collate data; and use basic jobrelated equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing specific defined processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with similar types of data and utilize jobrelated equipment. Problemsolving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problemsolving with data may require independent interpretation and problemsolving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific abilitybased competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; learning methods; supervising and disciplining students according to approved policies and procedures; modeling appropriate social skills; writing observations and documenting student behavior; understanding and following oral and written directions; communicating effectively orally and in writing with and children and adults.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; providing information and/or advising others; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the jobs functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organizations services.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping kneeling crouching and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10 sitting 60 walking and 30 standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and in a generally hazardfree environment.
