Job Description

Anticipated Vacancy Music Everett High School Teacher

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Music Coordinator and the EHS Principal the Music Teacher is responsible for teaching beginner and intermediate pedagogical concepts to students in grades 912 while assisting the staff of the schools in the improvement/appreciation of standardsbased music instruction. A successful candidate will bring enthusiasm towards developing a program that helps students grow in their enjoyment appreciation and performance of music through daily lessons on piano guitar and other rock/pop instrumentation in a group setting. Any candidate for this position will be engaging with students through modeling reading listening playing the instruments and providing a rich context for the roles of rock/pop instruments in music history.

This role will specifically teach piano lessons in the high school piano lab in addition to teaching courses in rock band and pop instrumentation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and facilitate lessons aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for Arts and districtprovided curriculums.
  • Teach group Piano lessons to beginner students at EHS in a dedicated piano lab.
  • Coordinate Rock Band classes for beginner/intermediate students at EHS using schoolowned equipment instruments and resources.
  • Select repertoire rehearse and conduct the EHS Rock Band in both group lessons and full ensemble rehearsals (after school) prior to all concerts and performance events.
  • Collaborate with the instrumental music team to plan and deliver schoolbased and districtwide concerts throughout the year: a Holiday Concert a Spring Band Concert and additional events throughout the school year. (i.e. Community Art Festival Memorial Day etc.
  • Maintain care and responsibility for schoolowned items musical instruments and equipment to prevent loss or abuse. Coordinate repairs to instruments as required.
  • Assess each pupils musical growth performance and musical understanding and provide feedback to students to improve their performance and skills.
  • Support selecting appropriate music curriculum books and instructional aides to enhance learning and requisitions musical instruments and instructional supplies as necessary.
  • Engage frequently with fellow Music Department educators from all across the district on cooperative projects ensembles and curricula.
  • Use the districts available technology and virtual curricula to create engaging lessons and supports linked with 21stcentury skills.
  • Manage classroom behavior with Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies that motivate students limit disruptions and create a sense of belonging.
  • Incorporate socialemotional learning standards and curriculum that promote a sense of belonging inclusion selfconfidence teambuilding and informed decisionmaking.
  • Utilize inclusive practices and SEI strategies for multilingual learners.
  • Using evidencebased culturally and linguistically sustaining instructional practices to provide equitable opportunities for gradelevel learning.
  • Creates and maintains a safe supportive and inclusive environment by establishing classroom routines and systems to support student learning.
  • Communicate with students families regularly using culturally responsive strategies that promote twoway conversations.
  • Contribute to schoolwide initiatives and events as assigned by the Coordinator of Music School Principal and/or Assistant Principal.

Requirements:

  • Minimum B.M. in Music Education or B.A. in Musical Fine Arts
  • Valid Massachusetts teacher certification in Music Education K12
  • Knowledge of National and MA standards for music education as basis for instruction.
  • Willingness to collaborate with fellow building specialists and colleagues.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to excellence equity and professionalism at all times.
  • Knowledge of piano and guitar


Preferred Qualification:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working in an urban public school setting
  • Experience working with diverse language groups and modifying instruction to meet student needs
  • Ability to enhance instruction and support student engagement
  • Proficiency with technology (blended learning teacher/family communication apps Google GSuite Apps etc. is desired.
  • Experience with socialemotional learning and/or supporting language acquisition
  • Proficiency in reading writing and speaking in another language in addition to English

Salary:

Salary for this position will be based on the Everett Teachers Association Collective Bargaining Agreement.
