Job Description

Position Title: Health Sciences/Medical Professions Instructor

Department: Building Level

Reports To: Principal

Closing: Until Filled

Contract:School Year

SUMMARY:Provide a career and technical education instructional program that prepares students to apply technical knowledge and skills in the industry or continue into a postsecondary educational is a high school teaching position in Medical Professions which is a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. The Medical & Health Careers program is a series of prescribed courses for grades 1012 that provides a strong foundation in the health sciences. Students are provided with a curriculum that introduces them to careers and fields of study in medicine nursing and nursing assistants phlebotomy and home health care. Students may be eligible to obtain certifications and internships in many of the areas of health occupations. Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) is also an integral part of student success in Medical & Health Careers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement the educational program within the standards and policies established by the Arkansas Department of Career and Technical Education.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and appearance.
  • Participate in regular professional development activities to keep abreast of advances in technology curriculum and instructional delivery techniques and remain current in all areas of the field of expertise.
  • Prepare students for industry by teaching industryrecognized standards. Administer industryrecognized certification examinations to students as appropriate.
  • Provide technical skills training to students to prepare for the appropriate PDEapproved endofprogram assessment if applicable.
  • Develop revise and implement the curriculum as it pertains to each instructional area in accordance with established State and District guidelines and formats.
  • Develop revise and implement instructional activities and materials to support the curriculum.
  • Utilize a diversity of instructional methods in order to motivate students and promote learning. Mentor students and provide counseling and/or refer students to appropriate school specialists.
  • Provide and maintain a wellorganized safe learning environment.
  • Implement and maintain a preventative safety program in lab and classroom areas consistent with related OSHA standards. Involve students in a safety program.
  • Prepare lesson plans weekly and provide lesson plans for shortterm substitutes.
  • Maintain daily attendance records and instructional plans.
  • Implement and maintain a system of student discipline and encourage appropriate student behavior in accordance with policies approved by the JNPSD Board of Education.
  • Maintain student records including Performance Assessment Logs and communicate student progress to parents/guardians.
  • Develop and promote student leadership civic responsibility and citizenship through the integration of SkillsUSA Professional Development activities into the curriculum and through membership and participation in SkillsUSA conferences and competitions.
  • Prepare students for workbased learning opportunities as appropriate.
  • Use maintain safeguard inventory and dispose of all instructional equipment in accordance with all applicable Federal State and District requirements and policies.
  • Participate in the development of assigned students Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and utilize all accommodations as indicated on the IEPs.
  • Maintain all paperwork and reports pertinent to the position and as required by standards and policies approved and established by the Arkansas Department of Career Education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and or EXPERIENCE:A minimum of a bachelors degree in Health Science or related field from an accredited college or university and/or five 5 years of work experience as a registered nurse with longterm health care experience. Current licensure as a registered health professional in the state of Arkansas. Minimum educational requirements/work experience shall be met prior to employment in the teaching specialty. Upon hiring Qualified Applicants must obtain licensure through the Arkansas Department of Education by applying for licensure and completingthe following 4 courses on Arkansas IDEAS as a part of the application process: Suicide Awareness; Child Maltreatment; Parental Involvement; Dyslexia

Additionally upon hire qualified applicants will be expected to attend professional development required by the Arkansas Department of Career Technical Education.

Preferred:Masters Degree in Nursing or Health Science related field. CNA Instructor certification prior teaching experience.APPLICANTS MUST BE PREPARED TO SHOW EVIDENCE OF THESE QUALIFICATIONS IN THEAPPLICATION PORTAL.

SALARY AND TERMS:

Salary based on a teachers nine 9 month contract plus additional days for training.

Note:Precise placement on the salary range will be determined based on education and experience.
