BELLINGHAM MASSACHUSETTS
TITLE: SUMMER CAMP NURSE
POSITION SUMMARY:
To assist in providing the fullest possible educational opportunity for each
student by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of
health and wellbeing in all schools. The School Nurse is directly
responsible to the Summer Camp Program Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures and dispenses medications.
- Assumes authority in the absence of a physician for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered and injury or emergency illness.
- Makes recommendations to parents summer camp program director and/or School Principal on health needs of individual students.
- Implements policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
- Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools.
- Assumes other general related responsibilities as may be assigned.
- Adheres to the adopted policies of the Bellingham School Committee.
SKILLS/ABILITY:
- A minimum of two years of child health community health or other relevant clinical nursing experience.
- Such alternatives to the above experiential requirements as the School Committee may find appropriate and acceptable.
CERTIFICATES LICENSES and/or DEGREE REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts certification as School Nurse preferred.
- The applicant must have completed a bachelors in nursing or a masters in Nursing degree from an accredited institution.
- Completion of an orientation program based on the requirements for delivery of school health services as defined by the Department of Public Health.
- Current CPR and first aid from a recognized provider.
SALARY: $33/hour
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be able to move about the classroom and can bend sit or stand frequently.
