Job Description

Job Summary:

Position is responsible for assisting the school principal in the planning organization administration and management of an assigned secondary school with an emphasis on leading the schools operations. Position assists with supervising staff creating a safe environment and other duties associated with the successful operation of a secondary school.

Essential Duties:

1. Coordinates and supervises the daily operation of the schools attendance program athletics and activities program security functions transportation cafeteria program custodial program inschool suspension detention operations and the clinic and also works in cooperation with central office administrators and supervisors who have division wide responsibility for these operations.
2. Establishes and administers the schools student discipline plan and the schools plan for ensuring a safe and orderly environment.

3. Assists the school principal in ensuring that the schools policies and procedures related to student discipline referrals and discipline action plans meet state federal and division requirements.

4. Assists the secondary school principal in the supervision and performance evaluation of staff assigned to the school.
5. Performs classroom observations and conferences with teachers to improve the instructional program.

6. Supervises and coordinates the preparation of student discipline review documents as required by School Board policy.

7. Conferences with parents/guardians of students concerning discipline attendance and student behavior.

8. Conferences with students referred for violations of the Rights and Responsibilities Handbook administers disciplinary action as necessary and notifies parents/guardians of action taken.

9. Consults with student services personnel to find long term solutions to inappropriate student behavior.

10. Provides professional development for the instructional staff and other assigned personnel regarding school security the Rights and Responsibilities Handbook classroom management effective discipline strategies and conferencing techniques.

11. Supervises the secondary assistant principals in the building.

12. Assists the school principal in establishing and sustaining relationships with the business community and other youth serving organizations to foster understanding and solicit support for students and their families.

13. Monitors halls school grounds and pupil movement to ensure a smart safe environment at the assigned school.

14. Attends and supervises afterschool evening and weekend school sponsored events and activities as assigned.

15. Develops articulates and supports school safety initiatives to the faculty and school community.

16. Seeks ways to develop and sustain a climate of mutual respect between and among the students and adults who participate in the school.

17. Prepares related reports and records as required by the school division local state or federal government.

18. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.

Other Duties:

1. Assists the secondary school principal with interviewing and recommending qualified candidates for vacancies within the assigned secondary school.

2. Initiates and maintains effective liaisons with professional societies to keep abreast of developments and research in the profession.

3. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the school principal or other appropriate administrators.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge Skills and/or Abilities Required):

Must possess a Masters degree and be eligible for a Virginia Postgraduate Professional License in administration and supervision. Must possess at least three years of successful experience as a teacher with some experience at the secondary school level. Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of the current issues principles and practices in public secondary school education and the ability to apply them to the needs of a school. Must possess the ability to assist with administering and managing the operation of a secondary school. Must possess the ability to plan and supervise the work of others. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students parents staff and the public.
