School Bus Drivers must possess or have the ability to acquire an appropriate commercial drivers license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia; must pass a physical examination as prescribed by the Virginia Department of Education; and possess and maintain a satisfactory driving record from the Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles that meets state requirements and indicates positive driving points.

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK:
Performs intermediate semiskilled human support work in the transportation of pupils to and from school and special events; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Transportation Supervisor and appropriate principals. This is a nonexempt position as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act.
This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally up to 10 pounds of force frequently and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing stooping crouching reaching pushing pulling grasping and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for operation of motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to outside environmental conditions noise vibration and atmospheric conditions. The worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:
Driving school bus; picking up and delivering students to/from school. School bus drivers also
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
General knowledge of the problems involved in operating a school bus; general knowledge of the geography of the City and the location of streets; skill in the safe operation of a school bus; ability to detect malfunctioning equipment; ability to assist children using patience and understanding; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials public associates and students.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of or ability to acquire an appropriate commercial drivers license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Must pass physical examination as prescribed by the Department of Education of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Must maintain a satisfactory driving record from the Division of Motor Vehicles that meets state requirements and indicates positive driving points.
