We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated SchoolBased Occupational Therapist to join our team. Qualified candidates will work with students in a school setting to support their physical sensory and developmental needs. The role involves assessing developing and implementing therapeutic interventions to help students participate in their daily activities and succeed in their educational environments. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of developmental disorders special education needs and a passion for helping children achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
Assessment & Evaluation:
- Conduct evaluations to assess students fine motor sensory processing and daily living skills.
- Develop and implement individualized therapy plans based on assessment results.
- Collaborate with teachers parents and other school staff to understand the students needs and progress.
Intervention & Therapy:
- Provide individual and group therapy sessions tailored to students unique needs.
- Design and implement strategies to improve students functional abilities in the classroom including handwriting sensory integration and adaptive skills.
- Support students in increasing their independence with tasks such as dressing eating and mobility.
- Screen and provide interventions as needed as part of the MulitTiered System of Supports
Collaboration & Consultation:
- Work closely with teachers school psychologists and special education staff to ensure a comprehensive approach to student care.
- Offer consultation and training to staff on implementing accommodations and modifications in the classroom.
- Provide support to families regarding therapy goals and how to assist their child at home.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and interventions.
- Prepare reports for Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings 504 meetings and Student Support meetings.
- Participate in IEP/504/Intervention plan development and progress monitoring.
- Document student progress goals and objectives and provide regular updates to parents and school staff.
Professional Development:
- Stay current with best practices and advances in occupational therapy and special education.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities as required.
Qualifications:
Experience:
- Previous experience working in a school or pediatric setting is preferred.
- Experience working with children with special needs including sensory processing disorders ADHD autism spectrum disorder and developmental delays is a plus.
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of childhood development and occupational therapy principles and practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse team.
- Ability to design and implement therapy programs that promote student success.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
Working Conditions:
- The position will be based in a school environment working directly with students in classrooms and other school settings.
- Occasional travel may be required for meetings or training.
