Job Description

Job Goal:To provide clerical and managerial assistance in the library in order that the media specialist might work closely with students and teachers in support of instruction.

Qualifications:

  1. High School diploma
  2. Associate degree or higher preferred

FLSA Status: Non Exempt

Supervisor(s):Principal or Appropriate Supervisor

Background CheckRequired: (Ala. Code 1622A5 Upon offer of employment employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Background checks must not be more than 10 years old.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  1. Demonstrated keyboarding skills using a computer
  2. Ability and skill to operate and maintain audiovisual equipment and make minor repairs
  3. Basic knowledge and skills in operation of computer programs and related technology
  4. Physical capability to handle move retrieve and/or deliver materials and equipment that may be large and/or heavy to various locations including classrooms and other areas in the school
  5. Physical ability to reach both very high and very low areas in order to retrieve and replace items
  6. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students administrators teachers and other coworkers
  7. Be capable of moving and lifting moderately heavy weights
  8. Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fastpaced high intensive work environment

Essential Functions:

  1. Participated in daily and longrange planning.
  2. Prepares classroom materials and develops activities.
  3. Conducts activities with individuals and small groups.
  4. Assists in preparing class displays and bulletin boards.
  5. Assists in caring for and securing classroom equipment and supplies.
  6. Assists in duties related to assigned area of library/media center.
  7. Assists with classroom management.
  8. Assists with clerical work projects and programs special events and field trips.
  9. Alerts the teacher to special needs of individual students.
  10. Maintains confidentiality with regard to student performance and records.
  11. Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Madison City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Madison City Schools.
  • Under the Students First Act of 2011 no credit toward tenure or nonprobationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30.

Expected Employment:7 hrs/182 days (full contract)

Evaluation:Performance evaluation shall be in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy.

Salary Range:According to Madison City Schools Salary Schedule (Salary based on employment for complete year). Up to 10 years experience will be counted for new employees who provide documentation of fulltime experience in the area of concentration.
