Reporting to the Department Chair Business and Accounting the FT Faculty Recreation Management is
responsible for teaching a variety of introductory and upperlevel undergraduate recreation leisure tourism and sport management courses academic advising and organizing cocurricular activities. Teaching flexibility is highly desired.
Essential Job Functions:
Teaching all levels of undergraduate recreation leisure tourism and sport management courses (teaching
load is up to 15 credit hours per semester; may have release time to conduct research or other duties)
Maintaining professional scholarship
Advising students
Effectively managing the classroom environment
Developing maintaining and submitting accurate timely and complete records (attendance assignments
grades end of course notebooks etc.
Conducting research (suitable for an academic or professional audience)
Participating in course and curriculum development mentoring parttime faculty and students as well as
providing service to the School and the University
Managing and supervising studentinterns
Serving the School the University and the profession and community as appropriate
As applicable to assignment as an academic Program Coordinator:
o Regularly organizes schedules and documents collaboration meetings with other program colleagues
to:
o Discusses matters related to the students in the applicable program.
o Assesses and reviews the needs of the program (faculty supplies instrumentation etc..
o Makes program curriculum revision recommendations aimed to address current market trends and
submits to the Dean.
o Coordinates activities with colleagues to enhance teaching and the learning process.
o Acts as the primary faculty academic advisor for the students in the program.
o Disseminates information to students relating to internships and job opportunities research
seminars graduate schools supporting programs tutoring etc.
o Composes an annual strategic plan and an annual operational plan for the applicable academic
program.
o Submits an annual assessment report.
o Serves as an advisor for Freshman Orientation summer programs.
o Assures submission of book orders for all relevant program courses.

Education and/or Experience:
Earned M.S. Degree in parks recreation tourism sport management or related field required from an accredited
institution of higher learning; Ph.D. preferred.
Coursework in community development therapeutic recreation leisure studies outdoor recreation
campus/municipal recreation tourism park management and/or curriculum development.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Teaching experience at the university level preferred.
Strong organizational skills.
Demonstrated understanding and strong commitment to cultural diversity.
Experience with publishing and/or presenting research preferred.
Certificates Licenses or Registrations
Must possess the minimum credential standards of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) which normally includes at least 18 graduate semester credit hours in the subject area or suitable approved justifications.

Physical Demands:
Ability to sit or stand for up to 8 hours/day. Some lifting (up to 25 pounds occasionally) bending and carrying. Specific vision abilities include the ability to use close vision. The employee is regularly required to talk and hear and to use hands and fingers to handle or feel.
