This position provides speech and language evaluation and direct services to students K4 as well as consultation to staff depending on assignment. Augmentative and alternative communication experience is needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Masters Degree in SpeechLanguage Pathology
Certificate of Clinical Competence from American SpeechLanguage Hearing Association (ASHA)
Massachusetts state license as Speech Language Pathologist
Massachusetts Department of Education Teacher certification as aTeacher of Students with Speech Language and Hearing Disorders
Exceptions to the above qualifications shall be made as the
Superintendent deems appropriate and acceptable.
PURPOSE: Identifyand provide treatment for students with speech language and/or
hearing disorders
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and/or Director of Special Education
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITY:
1. Provide speech and language therapy services to students with communication disabilities
or delays that include but are not limited to expressive language receptive language
social communication articulation oralmotor apraxia voice and fluency
2. Conduct speech and language screenings and evaluations in order to diagnose
communication disorders and delays including but not limited to; expressive language
receptive language social communication articulation oralmotor apraxia voice and
fluency as well as to students requiring augmentative communication devices
3. Consult with outside medical providers such as neurologists audiologists and
otolaryngologist as needed
4. Provide intervention services and/or consultation through a Response to Intervention
Services/Prevention model
5. Provide direct services and consultation as indicated on the students Individualized
Education Program
6. Provide consultation services to classroom teachers administrators and other specialists
to improve management of services to student with special education needs
7. Provide information to parents and guardians of students regarding typical speech and
language development
8. Collect data and analyzes student progress in order to determine eligibility develop
student goals and objectives and report progress
9. Maintain compliance of regulations of Individualized Education Program development
team meetings Medicaid billing report writing and progress reports
10. Serve as case manager for designated students on Individualized Education Programs
11. Assist with the management of communication and amplification devices
12. Provide culturally competent services in accordance with ASHA guidelines
and regulations
13. SuperviseSpeechLanguage Pathology Assistants (SLPA) as required by ASHA and licensure
other responsibilities as deemed appropriate and assigned by a supervisor
and/or designee
EXPERIENCE:
Safety Care trained preferred
12 yearsworking in a school setting
Training in Lindamood Bell
ELL and SEL training preferred
Spanish speaking preferred
