About the Opportunity

Job Summary:

The New York City Scholars (NYCS) Program is a unique opportunity for firstyear students at Northeastern University. Students will study at our partner institution Marymount Manhattan Collegeduring the Falland Spring semesters of their first yearand enter Northeastern University Boston in the Fall semester of their second year. Partner universities provide academic courses to the participants while Northeastern University Global Network First Year Program and Student Life staff provide onsite leadership and support services.

With supervision from the Associate Director of Global Network First Year Programs the Program Supervisor role is a yearround fulltime benefitseligible position that requires the person in this role to live onsite with students.

During the extended academic year (summer fall and spring) this individual will live onsite and oversee the operations for the NYCS Program location leading up to and through the fall and spring semesters with some remote work during parts of the summer. The Program Supervisor will work with Student Life and other campus partners on special projects and specific goals to ensure student and programmatic success.

Individuals will work nontraditional hours including some evenings and weekends supporting student programming and attending to the safety and wellbeing of students and staff. They will also serve on an oncall rotation while on location.

Responsibilities during the Pre Departure phase (late spring through summer)could include:

  • Support enrollment management yield goals by presenting to prospective students and families

  • Serve on various GEO working groups and committees to improve future onsite operations

  • Provide consultations and training to colleagues on matters of student mobility transition and Northeastern partnerships

  • Supportprogramming and provide resources to develop a cohort of Alumni Ambassadors including recruitment selection training and ongoing cohortbuilding initiatives

  • Collaborate with Student Lifeand other strategic university partners to plan and facilitate site staff onboarding and training

  • Assist with logistical planning of site staff training and student predeparture orientation for various mobility programs

  • Liaise with Student Life departments and engage with campuswide community building efforts transition and integration support for NYCS students

Responsibilities during the fall and spring semesters could include:

  • Relationship Development

  • Build partner relationships and serve as global firstyear program experts

  • Act as the primary point of contact for the partner while leading managing and tracking the quality and diversity of academic cultural and social programming for NYCS students

  • Serve as a liaison with staff and faculty from the partner institution and GEO Central Staff

  • Serve as a conduct hearing officer as needs dictate

  • Program Development

  • Drive global learning outcomes and initiatives on site as well as critical firstyear skills such as problemsolving critical thinking building resilience

  • Ensure student programming and operational activities are effective in budgetary oversight

  • In partnership with the Student Success Manager and Program Supervisor Academics guide and direct Student Success Coordinators on planning and implementing global learning academics and advising support

  • Plan coordinate and oversee the onsite orientation for NYCS students in collaboration with the partner and NU Student Affairs

  • Student Success Wellness and Support

  • Encourage student academic success respond to student concerns and connect students to resources

  • Work with site staff Student Affairs GEO and the Global Safety Office to create a safe and secure environment

  • Work with Student Affairs on managing crises and further develop skills to confidently triage and communicate with families and emergency contacts as situations arise

The Program Supervisor will work collaboratively to support the safety and wellbeing of students and contribute to the development and overall success of the students and the program. Responsibilities may vary based on site placement the needs of students Global First Year Programs and Student Affairs.

Minimum Qualifications:

This highly demanding position requires a significant amount of patience flexibility assertiveness diplomacy and selfinitiative as well as substantial experience living abroad and working in fastpaced and ambiguous environments. This position requires a unique and flexible individual prepared to navigate the personal and professional challenges of location changes varied responsibilities and cosupervision models.

  • Bachelors Degree required in a relevant field Masters preferred

  • Minimum 34 years of demonstrated student service experience or higher education experience in a residence life or student affairs capacity

  • Experience with supervision leading teams and managing diverse staff

  • Experience living working or studying abroad or demonstrated equivalent experiences

  • Experience working closely with high school or undergraduate students

  • Experience with crisis management mediation and conflict resolution

  • Flexibility and demonstrated ability to excel in fastpaced environments navigate ambiguity and take actions that satisfy diverse interests

  • Demonstrated history of supporting advocating for and/or leading DEI initiatives and values

  • Proven ability to coordinate and manage events for large groups with enthusiasm and attention to detail

  • Experience with budget reporting

  • Fluent in English additional language abilities a bonus

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Location/area expertise and local language proficiency

  • Knowledge or experience of Northeastern University

  • Understanding of NAFSA: Association of International Educators professional ethics and competencies

With the pay range(s) shown above the starting salary will depend on several factors which may include your education experience location knowledge and expertise and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarlysituated employees already in the role. Salary ranges are reviewed regularly and are subject to change.
