The Surgical Technologist handles the instruments supplies and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. He/she understands the procedure being performed and anticipates the surgeons needs. He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintaining the sterile field.
Position Overview
Prepares and maintains medical equipment for surgical procedures.
Follows hospital regulations and industry procedures to tend to patients during preoperation procedures. Performs preoperation preparations on the patients skin body and medical equipment.
May be required to transport patient to and from the operating room.
Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks.
Typically reports to a registered nurse.
Assists with patient care responsibilities in the OB unit including vital signs assisting with toileting and ambulation passing meal trays setting up delivery tables etc.
Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program.
Must be certified to perform CPR
Desirable characteristics include at least two 2 years of experience as a scrub technician in a hospital or medical environment.
Familiar with standard concepts practices and procedures within a particular field.
