Your Responsibilities:

As an Education Program Consultant for Behavior Specially Designed Instruction and Autism you will serve as a leader providing technical assistance and guidance on the following:

  • Lead the statewide scaling and implementation of evidencebased practices for the delivery of specially designed instruction for students with behavioral needs including but not limited to challenging behavior and for neurodivergent learners from birth to age 21 including those who have or are at risk of having autism This includes participation in existing statewide collaborative implementation and scaling structures including:
    1. Facilitation of or membership on statewide development and delivery teams;
    2. Outreach to regional resource teams
    3. Providing technical assistance focusing on evaluation for instructional design; designing instruction and delivering instruction and other supports; helping districts schools and classrooms move from exclusionary discipline practices to creating safe predictable learning environments for students with behavioral health needs including but not limited to challenging behaviors.
    4. Using implementation science to support scaling and implementation efforts.
    5. Integrating professional learning and supports into IDEADifferentiated Accountability.
  • Work collaboratively with external partners and infrastructure components of the Statewide Special Education Leadership Network (e.g. Procedures Governance Council and ACHIEVE Governance Council).

Qualification Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

1 Graduation from an accredited fouryear college or university and five years of fulltime postgraduate work experience in any one or a combination of the following areas:

a. Professional training teaching or counseling experience in an educational setting;

b. Professional administrative experience in an educational setting;

c. Professional personnel administration including such areas as job analysis performance appraisal systems selection devices or labor relations;

d. Professional finance accounting or auditing experience including the preparation or analysis of financial statements;

e. Professional experience in a major technical program area utilized by the Iowa Department of Education or Board of Educational Examiners.

2 A combination of a total of five years of postgraduate education and fulltime experience (as described in number one) where twentyfour semester hours of accredited postgraduate college or university course work equals one year of fulltime experience.

3 Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Masters degree possession of a valid Iowa Teaching Certificate and three academic years of teaching and/or administrative experience in PK12 and/or a postsecondary educational institution.

4 Possession of a School Business Official Authorization from the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners and seven years of fulltime professional experience in finance accounting or auditing including the preparation or analysis of financial statements.
