Job Description

Patient Advocate
The patient advocate is focused on supporting the needs of our patients in a traumainformed patientcentered manner. The patient advocate will support patients by managing communication to and from patients to ensure healthcare is received while supporting and protecting patient rights.

Work Arrangements
Hours: Monday Wednesday Friday 5:45am1:30pm; Tuesday and Thursday 5:45am2:30pm
Onsite during core service hours
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer

Job Description
Essential Functions
  • Receives triages and manages all incoming patient feedback that comes into the organization. This feedback may be received via internet phone call onsite feedback group staff to staff or any other means and may include positive feedback informational complaints grievances.
  • Responsible for reviewing feedback and notifying/involving any relevant staff for followup.
  • Responsible for following up with the patient in a timely manner.
  • Serves as the Patient Rights Officer.
  • CompDrugs liaison with the Franklin County ADAMH Board and other regulatory bodies for patient rights matters.
  • Receives and reviews patient complaints regarding quality of care treatment communication or staff conduct conducting thorough investigations and documenting findings.
  • Maintains detailed records of patient complaints investigations and resolutions submitting reports to relevant authorities as required.
  • Facilitating communication between patients and healthcare providers to resolve conflicts and reach mutually agreeable solutions.
  • Educating patients about their rights and responsibilities as defined by SAMSHA OhioMHAS ADAMH including access to medical records informed consent treatment options and grievance procedures.
  • Member of internal Operations Team a working cross functional team that collaborates to support patient care and organizational effectiveness.
  • Attends internal Case Review meeting to represent patient interests.
  • Represents patients interests when necessary and refers to internal staff for support in navigating their care.
  • Coordinates cohort of patients who have been identified and trained to represent CompDrug externally; responsible for providing training to those patients and maintaining release forms.
  • Supports organizational compliance and understanding of Patient Rights Procedures:
    • Monitoring compliance with patient rights policies and procedures identifying areas for improvement and recommending updates as needed.
    • Providing education and training to healthcare staff on patient rights ethical practices and effective communication techniques.
    • Responsible for organizational communication to patients in all mediums (i.e. patient newsletter tv monitor print text). Coordinates with print vendors patient communication needs.
Requirements
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
  • Customer Service experience
  • Deescalation experience
  • Previous experience in a patient rights or patient advocacy role.
  • Excellent communication collaboration and organizational skills including the ability to communicate and work effectively with all levels of the organization and patients.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to demonstrate critical thinking and planning skills.
  • The ability to establish and maintain a personcentered and forwardthinking environment.
