Hours: 4 Hours per Day Monday Thursday (Elementary/Middle School); 6 Hours per Day Monday Thursday (High School)
Dates of Summer School:June 20 2025 July 17 2025; No School July 4th ; Secretaries are scheduled one day before and one day after summer school (June 23 July 16
Secretaries must commit to working the entire summer school session No vacation or deduct leave will be approved.These are parttime temporary positions.Non bargaining unit members will earn the substitute rate of pay.
Internal candidates will be given first consideration. You will be able to choose your top three choices as you apply. Secretaries must fulfill contracted number of days. Summer school hours may not be substituted for contracted time.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The secretary will act as receptionist maintain records prepare materials and correspondence assist program supervisors maintain books/materials checkout system and perform other jobrelated tasks to assist with the summer school program as needed.
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Must commit to working the entire summer session. No leave time will be earned or granted.
- Passing basic skills test based on the requirements of the position.
- Employment history in similar position(s).
- References indicating satisfactory skills and abilities in similar position.
- Successful completion of training or certification programs related to position. This could include but is not limited to one of the following: High School Diploma GED AA BA etc.
- Must present transcripts of highest level of education within thirty 30 days of hire.

- Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within thirty 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Bilingual English/Spanish Must pass the oral and written proficiency exams through the KSD bilingual department. (Required in positions noted as bilingual in the table above.
- Demonstrated knowledge of data sharing between elementary schools.
- Demonstrated computer experience in the use of Microsoft Office Word and PowerSchool.
- Demonstrated accuracy speed and proficiency in office methods and use of office equipment record keeping filing bookkeeping computer word processor and telephone etiquette).
- Evidence of demonstrated ability to work independently and possess initiative.
- Evidence of demonstrated ability to: work under pressure with interruptions and still maintain composure and appropriate office routine; compose standard memos letters and reports independently or with minimum instruction; accept responsibility with minimum direct supervision; handle minor problems with office equipment; and set up data management system on computer.
- Recommendations that confirm dependability flexibility loyalty and selfstarting capabilities.
- Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
- Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
- Must attend inservice trainings or other meetings as required as well as attend any training as directed by management.
- Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
- Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful cooperative and effective relationship with students parents staff fellow employees and management.

- Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students parents district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities.
- Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records enter timecard information and read and respond to email.
- Previous experience and/or training operating general office equipment such as: computer copy machine 10 key adding machine and fax machine.
- Knowledge of computer programs such as Word Excel etc. Ability to function within various software programs.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; working knowledge of correct grammar spelling and English usage.
- Possess current first aid card or willingness to acquire one.
- Must be willing to participate in district training as it becomes available for varied computer programs and other needs.
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED
- AA degree or equivalent or comparable work experience in a secretarial/clerical office setting.
- Successful school office secretarial experience.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills.
- Experience working with school district procedures such as student registration orientation and assisting with student bussing needs.
- Ability to work with interruptions while balancing daily office responsibilities.
- Positive evaluations and recommendations that support character and work ethic.
- Excellent attendance punctuality and dependability; evidence of ability to be selfdisciplined and a selfstarter.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as receptionist; receive visitors/telephone calls in a cordial effective and courteous manner.
- Create and maintain an inviting office climate for students staff and parents.
- Establish and maintain office routine: maintain student and office records; track budget; prepare bulletins memos requisitions purchase orders and work orders; register students; maintain files; use office machines with proficiency speed and accuracy; process mail; handle all school correspondence.
- Prioritize tasks to coordinate activities of the summer school program.
- Assist program manager with transportation arrangements for students.
- Interpret and follow written and verbal instruction independently with minimal instruction.
- Assist with public relations materials and events for the summer school program.
- Maintain communication between the program manager teachers students parents and district as relates to the summer school program.
- Maintain checkout system of library books and instructional materials for students and staff.
- Maintain confidentiality and practice discretion regarding staff parents and students.
- Perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures including regular attendance and punctuality. Must commit to working entire session.
- Perform other jobrelated tasks as assigned by summer school director.
