Before your initial work period ends you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100.
Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Staff Development Specialist Health Services in Health Services Community Programs.

Through academic affiliations with the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) the University of Southern California (USC) and the Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Sciences (CDU) DHS hospitals are training sites for physicians completing their Graduate Medical Education in nearly every medical specialty and subspecialty. In addition to its direct clinical services DHS also runs the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Agency and the Countys 911 emergency response system as well as Housing for Health and the Office of Diversion and Reentry each with a critical role in connecting vulnerable populations including those released from correctional and institutional settings to supportive housing.

To advance the health of our patients and our communities by providing extraordinary care.
DEFINITION:
Develops implements and conducts staff development training programs for Health Services staff responsible for processing a variety of governmental medical assistance applications and other followup activities related to the training program of the Department of Health Services.
Conducts needs assessments to identify educational courses or activities and improve employee work productivity. Develops training plans to meet identified needs for Patient Access or Patient Financial Services staff and other staff involved in governmental medical assistance applications and patient access programs.
Develops training programs for health services staff including medical care programs administered in the various units of the department staffs role in meeting the objectives of these programs and interviewing skills for interacting with patients and their families.
Develops and conducts training programs for new health services staff assigned to financial screening and patient access tasks.
Develops implements reviews revises and maintains training programs designed to inform and update departmental managers and staff with the most uptodate health care program information to enforce and support their knowledge of eligibility requirements and procedures and improve their work skills.
Develops and utilizes evaluation studies and measurement tools to aid in assessing the effectiveness and modification of training programs and in improving their quality in determining additional training needs.
Identifies organizes and refines subject matter to be taught in training programs to assure maximum effectiveness.
Participates in administrative studies audits or research projects as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A Bachelors degree* from an accredited college or university AND Either
Option 1 One 1 year of staff experience** with responsibility for conducting training regarding health care programs***.
Option 2 One 1 year of experience in the supervision of eligibility determination in a health or welfare agency.
Option 3 One 1 year of experience in the supervision of a patient access unit****.
Option 4 Three 3 years of experience in the supervision of a large clerical unit in a health or welfare agency.
One year of additional experience at the required level may be substituted for the required education on a yearforyear basis.
You MUST meet one of the above requirement(s) in order to be considered for this recruitment.
LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out jobrelated essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS II LIGHT:
This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit and some bending stooping or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

**Staff Experience is defined as: work performed to assist and support administration by doing research analysis and making recommendations to line managers for the solution of problems such as organization utilization of personnel allocation of funds workload and workload fluctuation or programs and procedures for accomplishing work objective.
*** Health Care Program means a program or activity administered or funded by a local or state agency to provide health care services research education or goods.
****Patient Access Unit is defined as: A unit responsible for scheduling appointments patient registration and verification of coverage/financially clearing patients prior to appointments.

Before the end of your initial work assignment the appointing department will evaluate your performance. Those who achieve a passing score on this evaluation will be considered for permanent appointment.
