JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Penn States College of Earth and Mineral Sciences (EMS) seeks five highly motivated and experienced professionals to serve as PreAward Coordinators in the Office of the Associate Dean for Graduate Education and Research.
The EMS Research Office provides proposal preparation support and grant administration services for a $70 million per year college research enterprise. Collegelevel research administrators are a vital part of Penn States vibrant research community which boasts annual research expenditures exceeding $1.2 billion and ranks among the top 30 public research universities in the nation.
The successful candidates will join a highly respected team of preaward and postaward professionals in a highvolume fastpaced innovative and servicefirst environment.
Responsibilities
The PreAward Coordinator is responsible for the coordination and submission of compliant proposal packages on behalf of faculty and researchers for their designated college subunits.This position requires demonstrated experience with the following tasks:
Prepare proposal budgets and nontechnical components of grant applications
Review solicitation requirements and provide guidance to faculty to ensure compliant submissions
Generate grant application packages on a variety of government websites (i.e. Research Grants)
Maintain cognizance of University research administration policies and guidelines and provide guidance to faculty and staff on appropriate procedures and required approvals
Coordinate with the Office of Sponsored Programs Research Accounting Office of Research Protections and other University contacts as needed throughout the proposal process
Work Arrangement
The EMS Research Office is supportive of flexible work arrangements aligned with the ability to meet the needs of the unit and the essential duties of the position. The location of these positions is flexible and can be performed remotely within the United States. Standard working hours are in the Eastern time zone.
Education and Experience
Positions will be filled within the Proposal and Award Generalist career field at a level consistent with the candidates education and relevant experience:
Intermediate Professional:requires a bachelors degree or higher and one year of experience in research administration or related positions or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Advanced Professional:requires a bachelors degree or higher and three or more years of experience in research administration or related positions or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Senior Professional:requires a bachelors degree or higher and six or more years of experience in research administration or related positions or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Candidates should demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a highvolume deadlinedriven environment. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply but preference will be given to those with proposal submission experience with Department of Energy (DOE) NASA and/or Department of Defense (DoD) sponsors.
