Job Description

The Department of Radiology in the School of Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle is seeking applications for one fulltime faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor WOT (without tenure by reason of funding) commensurate with experience to join the growing Molecular Imaging and Therapy Nuclear Medicine service at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. This position has an anticipated start date of September 1 2025. Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multiyear appointments that align with a 12month service period (July 1June 30. Associate Professors WOT and full Professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12month service period (July 1June 30. Faculty with 12month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12month period (JulyJune) meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. In addition to clinical activities responsibilities will include instruction of medical students diagnostic radiology residents nuclear medicine residents and molecular imaging/nuclear medicine fellows. Productivity in research and other academic pursuits is mandatory for promotion.

The University of Washington/Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center Molecular Imaging and Therapy service is based at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center South Lake Union Campus. This rapidly growing service provides nuclear medicine diagnostic and therapy services and offers clinical trial opportunities for UW and Fred Hutch patients in an outpatient setting. The clinical PET/CT and general nuclear medicine imaging services have experienced steady growth for the past 5 years. Under the leadership of the Director of Molecular Imaging and Therapy Dr. Delphine Chen and Theranostics Director Dr. Amir Iravani the clinical therapy practice at Fred Hutch has grown exponentially in volume with a rapidly growing Lu177 PSMA and Lu177 dotatate therapy services expanded I131 thyroid cancer service and participation in multiple radiopharmaceutical therapy trials. Consultation services for both patients and providers have also expanded significantly leading to highly collaborative multidisciplinary participation of nuclear medicine in the oncology practice at Fred Hutch. The recent addition of a PET/MR scanner and plans for additional PET/CT and SPECT/CT camera installments will further increase clinical volumes and provide ample opportunities for clinical and translational research. As a result of this rapid growth UW/Fred Hutch seeks to add a fulltime clinical nuclear medicine physician or nuclear radiologist to the practice.

This position is based at Fred Hutch and will report to Dr. Delphine Chen. This position will apply exceptional communication and interpersonal skills administor radiopharmaceutical therapies nterpret oncologic PET/CT and general nuclear medicine imaging studies and engage with all team members across departments and patients to develop longterm collaborative relationships that enrich and enhance Fred Hutchs reputation for being patientcentered in all aspects of cancer care. The successful candidate will be expected to focus on fulfilling all clinical service expectations including but not limited to providing outstanding image interpretation conducting thorough patient evaluations providing reliable provider consultations through tumor boards and ad hoc requests fully engaging and responding to any necessary activities to support clinical collaborations around patient care administering therapies safely and effectively supporting all clinical trial activities and participating in call.

The base salary range for this position will be: $31180 $34292 per month $374162 $411504 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization. This position is incentive eligible through the physicians practice plan.

Candidates should meet the following requirements:

  • M.D. or D.O. or foreign equivalent and eligibility for full medical licensure in Washington State
  • Successful completion of one of the following: combined nuclear medicine/diagnostic radiology residency diagnostic radiology with nuclear medicine fellowship or nuclear medicine residency.If the candidate has only nuclear medicine training without diagnostic radiology board certification the candidate will be required to complete ACR CT reader requirements within the first two years on faculty.
  • American Board of Nuclear Medicine board certification or board eligibility OR Board of Nuclear Medicine certification and American Board of Radiology certifiation or eligibility.
  • Excellence in academic achievement as demonstrated by a record of scientific or educational presentations and/or publications
  • Expertise with regulatory and clinical trial requirements for evaluating novel radiopharmaceuticals

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H1B visa graduates of foreign (nonU.S. medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
