We are YSS!

The Transitional Living Program was designed to provide the option of monitored selfsufficient living for homeless youth 1624 years old. These individuals are not able to live safely with a parent or relative and have no other stable living arrangement. Participants live in site transitional living arrangements and are supervised and monitored for up to 21 months. Residents must be willing to participate in an appropriate level of counseling and abstain from chemical abuse. Responsibilities include:

  • Helping youth with individual tasks/skills such as filling out job applications and teaching the youth skills they need to gain/retain employment.
  • Teaching transitional aged youth aged 1624 to set goals and reach them so they can learn selfsufficiency skills.
  • Supervising youth in their homes during various activities like cleaning.
  • Assisting in preparing for new intakes into sites and assisting with getting clients settled into their new living arrangements
  • Becoming familiar with local community resources that the youth can utilize like the foods pantries and clothing centers and assisting clients obtain these services if needed
  • Working with staff doing various activities like helping lead and prepare for life skills/budgeting groups and meeting with clients.
  • Working with case managers/advocates/youth specialists to help make sure the youths needs are met.
  • Helping with various donation drives that the THS programs are involved with including Reggies Sleep Out and holiday giving programs.
  • Attending local and quarterly meetings with staff as needed to learn about activities events best practices and more.
  • Learning the Care Logic system for client files and assisting to ensure all files are up to date and meets program requirements.
  • Bimonthly meetings with supervisor; more meetings will be held if needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MUST HAVES Required Qualifications
  • A High School diploma or higher.
  • Must be at least 19 years old.
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Time commitment of a minimum of eight 8 hours per week.
  • Training in the following must be completed:
    • Mandatory Reporter training
    • CPR
    • First Aid and Safety
SHOULD HAVES Preferred Qualifications
  • All majors are accepted but Human Services majors are preferred.
  • Knowledge of the needs of youth who are unhoused or precariously housed and the ability to implement intervention strategies.
  • Able to work independently and take initiative.
  • Collaborative and able to work effectively with others regardless of backgrounds identities and goals.
  • Able to convey information effectively regardless of setting or audience; able to initiate conversation; experience with public speaking.
The IDEAL Candidate:
  • Is patient and calm under pressure and able to deal with challenging situations witha good attitude.
  • Can establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships.
  • Speaks a language(s) in addition to English.
