Description

The Adjunct Faculty Welding position is contracted on a per semester basis. This position is an instructional position with duties and responsibilities which are established in accordance with State Board of Education Rules and Board of Trustee policies. Teaching assignments will focus welding practices to include gas and electric welding. This position reports to the Director Marine Science and Technology. All instructors are responsible for utilizing the Colleges learning management system as all College courses are at a minimum technology enhanced

Examples of Duties

  1. Plans organizes and instructs assigned courses to promote studentsuccess.
  2. Maintains required office hours to provide assistance to students and communication withadministration.
  3. Responsible for evaluating student learning and objective achievement and providingfeedback.
  4. Selects appropriate materials and equipment for discipline or program use and ensures proper care and safetyin theiruse.
  5. Adheres to and enforces the administrative policies and procedures of theCollege.
  6. Assists in implementing College policies objectives and functions in accordance with the CollegeMission Statement.
  7. Responsible for keeping current in the discipline or program areastaught.
  8. Assist in College recruitment and retention efforts as appropriate.
  9. Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to perform shop practices to industry standards to ensure safety of staff students facilities and equipment.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to perform shop practices to industry standards to ensure safety of staff students facilities and equipment.
  • Knowledge and ability in these specific areas: OxyAcetylene cutting welding and brazing Carbon Arc cutting blueprint reading for welders metallurgy metal fabrication and the following welding techniques: SMAW GMAW GTAW PAC FCAW and metal corrosion.
  • Knowledge of CRAW preferred.
  • Knowledge of underwater welding preferred.
  • Strong student orientation and ability to work with a diverse student population.
  • Understanding of and commitment to Equal Access/Equal Opportunity.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of College mission policies procedures and services.
  • Proficient in the use of technology.
Education and Qualifications:
  • Associates degree in Marine Engineering Marine Technology or Seamanship and two years of relevant work experience or one or more specific industry certifications or any associate degree with five years of relevant work experience or one or more of the following specific industry certifications or College Credit Certificate (CCC) or any baccalaureate degree (or higher) from a qualifying field required.
    1. Welding (e.g. AWS)
    2. Professional Welder CCC
  • Three 3 years teaching experience at the community college level or higher ispreferred.
  • Three 3 years work experience in field ispreferred.
(A comparable amount of training education or experience may be substituted for the above minimum qualifications.

Licenses Certifications or Registrations:
  • A current AWS (American Welding Society) Certified Welder Certification is preferred.
  • Certifications in any or all of the following preferred: OxyAcetylene cutting welding and brazing carbon arc cutting blueprint reading for welders metallurgy metal fabrication and the following welding techniques: SMAW GMAW GTAW PAC FCAW metal corrosion CRAW underwater welding are preferred.
  • Eligible for an AWS (American Welding Society) CWE/CWI certificate (Certified Welder Educator/Certified Weld Inspector) is preferred.
Physical Skills:
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time and to present oral lectures and demonstrations.
Environmental Conditions:
  • Works inside in an office classroom and welding shop environment.

Supplemental Information

This is a parttime teaching assignment. Adjunct Instructors in the Marine Science and Technology Department earn $628 $727 per credit hour based on degree level.
