Departments Website:
Required Education and/or Experience:
Ph.D. in one of the disciplinary fields of Biology;
A tenured full professor or associate professor with at least three 3 years in rank;
Previous administrative experience in higher education.
Preferred Education and/or Experience:
Experience developing strategies for faculty mentoring and support;
Record of excellence and innovation in teaching and experience with curriculum and program development;
Management of budgets and research grants and knowledge of various funding opportunities;
Experience in promoting diversity and inclusion by recruiting retaining and graduating underrepresented students;
Demonstrated ability to understand and balance the needs of distinct programs within a multidisciplinary department;
Demonstrated ability to implement and oversee an effective departmental governance structure.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop future plans for the department in consultation with departmental faculty;
Ensure the department provides highquality education. This will include fostering cooperation among faculty encouraging faculty toward excellence in teaching building research programs campus and community engagement and being responsive to the needs of the department;
Evaluate faculty annually with input from the peer review boards and administer faculty tenure promotion sabbaticals etc.;
Lead the faculty in shaping improving and developing the departments initiatives in both traditional and online teaching grantfunded research interdisciplinary research and service;
Prepare class schedules degree evaluations and graduation checkouts;
Preside over department meetings appoint committees and act as a liaison between the department and higher administration;
Provide leadership in student recruitment retention and success;
Prudently manage the budget and financial affairs of the department;
Support university initiatives in student and faculty diversity;
Teach in each of the fall and spring semesters and perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
The candidate will have a demonstrated history of leadership and/or administrative experience in higher education;
Ability to communicate effectively;
Experience in curriculum and program development;
A record of excellence in teaching scholarship/research and service activities.
