The Summer Work Program is a 6week program funded by Vocational Rehabilitation that gives High School students the opportunity to work in a paid position of their choice to gain valuable hard and soft skills that will assist them for job readiness after graduation.
Must be available MondayFriday from May 23rd July 18th(Some variation depending on worksite)
**Must be available to work 6 weeks of the Summer Work plus 2 weeks of paid training before the program begins.
What is this job all about
The Summer Work Job Coach is a temporary position with the Summer Work Experience Program(SWEP). Those hired will have the option to transfer to a different department after the SWEP ends (as available) or may choose to end their employment after the SWE program is completed.
In this position your goal is to be a coach and mentor to students with disabilities as they take the first step in building job related skills and work experience to begin to develop their talents. The level of support varies from individual to individual but the mission is the same:serve others so they can direct their own lives as independent valued members of their community.
What will my daytoday responsibilities look like
A Summer Work Job Coach is responsible for overseeing the daily work tasks of the students at their assigned job site. Also focusing on job readiness with the students through guided instruction and teaching of soft skills. This position will work alongside a group of 4 to 7 students at one of the Summer Work sites for 20 hours per week for a total of 6 weeks.
This position will be the employers main contact during the Summer Work Program to ensure students develop a natural support in the workplace.
What do I need to be successful in this position
Be at least 18 years old
Must possess:
High School Diploma GED or equivalent
valid license insurance and reliable means of transportation to and from the worksite daily.
Soft Skills such as: patience punctuality empathy and good judgement
Strong interpersonal communication skills
Strong organizational skills
Must be able to:
Work in a variety of conditions and environments including indoors and outdoors
Use a variety of hand tools and cleaning chemicals. These will vary based on the site location.
Lift a minimum of 50 pounds
Stand for long periods of time stoop bend walk on a variety of terrain
Work in heat and direct sun
Work experience with individuals with disabilities or social service background preferred but not required.
