Job Description

THE POSITION

The Operations and Maintenance (OPS) Division of the Department of Land Use & Transportation is recruiting for the position of Community Services Program Monitor.


The Position
The OPS Division keeps Washington Countys transportation system functioning by maintaining about 1300 miles of roadway. They do this through road and bridge maintenance severe weather emergency response public rightofway management and environmental stewardship.

The Community Services Program Monitor is responsible for multiple tasks within the road rightofways for the OPS Division related to roadside vegetation management litter removal mowing brush cutting landscaping weeding sweeping pruning cleaning vegetation removal graffiti removal and removal of large animal carcasses from roadways.

They will direct work crew activities for justiceinvolved individuals completing community service under the supervision of Washington Countys Community Corrections Department. This program involves guiding the workers in various manual labor work activities that maintain the road rightofways. They are responsible for directing the work crews of up to 15 people; however crew sizes typically range between 5 and 10 people at any given time.

The standard schedule for this position will be five 5 consecutive days per week from 7:00 a.m. 3:30 p.m. including Saturday and Sunday. The successful candidate will have the option to choose if they work Saturday through WednesdayORWednesday through Sunday as their set work days.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have excellent leadership skills combined with a knowledge of Washington Countys infrastructure. They will have good time management and prioritization capability and be independent workers who look for opportunities for improvement.. They should be skilled at conflict resolution and be adept at quickly changing priorities and problemsolving. They will also have familiarity with basic construction tools and landscape maintenance techniques. They will possess excellent verbal communication skills and feel comfortable leading a team of individuals. The Community Services Program Monitor must also have the ability to provide basic written reports as well as be able to interpret codes ordinances and regulations. They will be comfortable working with a diverse group of people from different backgrounds and cultures.
