Staff Software Engineer - Java Backend

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled backendfocused Staff Software Engineer to join our modernization team focused on transforming the legacy CVS pharmacy systems into a cuttingedge cloudnative platform hosted on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). As part of the team you will play a crucial role in designing and developing microservices that drive the modernization of critical patient and drug domains. You will work on integrating cloudnative solutions enhancing performance and ensuring seamless operation within a highly scalable and secure environment. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in backend development system design and a strong understanding of cloudnative software engineering principles.

*Preference is for candidates to work hybrid out of our corporate office in Woonsocket RI or Hartford CT; remote will be considered for candidates not in close proximity to an office.

Responsibilities

• Develop backend services using Java and Spring Boot

• Design and implement solutions deployed on Google Cloud Platform (GKE)

• Work with distributed systems including Google Cloud Spanner (Postgres dialect) and Confluent Kafka (or similar pub/sub tools)

• Collaborate with teams to implement CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Argo CD

• Ensure high performance and reliability through sound software engineering practices

• Mentor and provide technical leadership to the frontend engineering team

Required Qualifications

• 7 years of experience with backend Java development

• 3 years of handson experience with a public cloud provider (Google Cloud preferred)

• 3 years working with pub/sub tools like Kafka or similar

• 3 years of experience with database design/development (Postgres or similar)

• 2 years of experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions Jenkins Argo CD or similar)

Preferred Qualifications

• Handson experience with Google Cloud Platform

• Familiarity with Kubernetes concepts; experience deploying services on GKE is a plus

• Strong understanding of microservice best practices and distributed systems

Education
Bachelors degree or equivalent experience (High School Diploma and 4 years relevant experience)

The typical pay range for this role is:

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual fulltime salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience education geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus commission or shortterm incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the companys equity award program.
