The North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS) was established by the North Carolina State Board of Education as an online community service K12 public school for students throughout the state of North Carolina. NCVPS is governed by the North Carolina State Board of Education (NCSBE) and reports on a daytoday basis to the NCDPI Chief Academic Officer. As a result of NCVPS work students in the public schools of North Carolina have access to online courses that are unavailable due to teacher shortages or scheduling conflicts. These courses provide students with equity of access to a highquality educational experience regardless of where they live within the state.
In addition to numerous curriculum course areas NCVPS offers courses in the critical languages of Arabic Japanese Mandarin Chinese and Russian.
CRITICAL LANGUAGE COACH REQUIREMENTS and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Students are matched with coaches based on demand and the coachs availability.
- Coaches are provided a flexible work schedule to accommodate students between the hours of 8:00AM12:00PM EST MondayThursday. Each coach may have multiple student groups to coach.
- To help students with their language skills critical language coaches meet in a virtual classroom with a small group of students for two 45minute sessions per week to facilitate practice exercises and provide realtime feedback to students.
- Coaches must have their own computers a headset or microphone and access to reliable highspeed internet.
- Since this is a remote position and students need consistent practice coaches are expected to host all of their assigned coaching sessionsunless there is an unforeseen event or severe illness.
- This position requires a score of at least Advanced Low on the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) examination OR professional working proficiency in the language indicated. Applicants must include official documentation of the exam completion certificate/score (if applicable) with the application in order to be considered for this position. IMPORTANT:
- This position is an online (remote) position.
- This is a contractbased position with no benefits associated.
- Coach contracts begin in August and/or January during each academic year.
- Teaching experience is preferred especially in online settings.
- Coaches must have the ability to host sessions via Zoom to provide online instruction.
- A current teaching license is not required for this position but a current teaching license can be an asset.

- The North Carolina State Board of Education (NCSBE) requires teachers who teach for North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS) to have a current NC Professional Educators Teaching License in the subject areas in which they are applying to teach. Time spent as a NCVPS teacherwillnotcount towards an SP1 (initial license) becoming an SP2 license.
