- Diploma in Horticulture or a related field or Journeyman (Red Seal) Landscape Horticulturist Certificate
- At least 5 years of experience in the landscape or forestry industry including supervisory responsibilities
Assets:
- Alberta Landscape and/or Agricultural Pesticide Applicator Certification or interprovincial equivalent
- Class CNSC or higher City of Edmonton Drivers Permit
- City of Edmonton Trailer Training
- City of Edmonton Skid Steer Training
- Experience operating small and Large Utility Tractors Skid steers Wood Chippers and various small engine equipment
- More than 2 years experience propagating woody landscape plants
- Proficiency in Google Suite including Gmail Drive Sheets Docs and Calendar

- Experience propagating and maintaining a diverse range of plant species
- Strong attention to detail and meticulous recordkeeping
- Knowledge of current best practices in horticulture production and maintenance

Conditions of Employment:
- Successful candidates will be fit for a respirator and compliance with the City of Edmontons Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment including medical monitoring is a requirement of this position
- Compliance with the City of Edmontons safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position including wearing CSA safety boots hard hats and High Visibility clothing
- Valid Alberta Class 5 drivers license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Drivers permit is a requirement of this position
Work Environment:
- Must be able to perform physical labor in all weather conditions

As a Gardener with the City of Edmontons Old Man Creek Nursery you will be responsible for propagating a wide variety of trees shrubs and native plants; gathering seed and cuttings and maintaining propagation stock for use in City planting initiatives. You will use your extensive knowledge of the growth and maintenance needs of nursery plant material to raise plants mentor other Nursery staff and continually improve on our work in the production of landscape plants.
What will you do
- Work with Nursery leadership and internal clients to develop and implement production plans for trees native shrubs and native forbs
- Apply Integrated Pest Management principles to monitor the health of plants identify pests and diseases and recommend appropriate control measures
- Mentor and train staff on horticultural and nursery greenhouse procedures including propagation planting pruning and watering techniques
- Collaborate and participate with Nursery staff Urban Forestry leaders and other departments on plant production projects and initiatives
- Maintain accurate records of plant health treatments inventories propagation results and other relevant information
- Demonstrate applied skills and provide fieldlevel training to Nursery staff
- Assist with other related operational work at the nursery including operation of equipment pruning irrigation maintenance and repair and application of herbicides
