Who We Are:
The Internal Services Department (ISD) plays a major role in supporting all County of Los Angeles departments and commissions. With an annual budget of over $885 million and 2162 budgeted positions along with over 5120 contracted workers of varying professions in facilities management information technology environmental administrative purchasing and contracting ISD is the Countys trusted partner and provider of choice.

The Opportunity:
We are pursuing an experienced and qualified candidate to fill a Computerized Graphic Designer (Sign Painter) position in the Facilities Management Division. The candidate must possess strong working knowledge of graphic design software and applications plotters and other computerized graphic design equipment to produce signs banners stencils patterns decals acrylic cutouts and other customized signage.

Essential Job Functions

Designs paints and lays signs and posters using graphic design software and plotters.

Does all types and styles of lettering by hand including shaded lettering and the use of gold silver and aluminum leaf.

Prepares all types of surfaces for sign painting including wood metal glass concrete and stucco.

Matches colors and mixes paints and other materials used.

Cuts stencils and uses them in the reproduction of signs.

Fabricates signs by cutting letters and symbols out of reflective material or precut letters and placing selfadhesive sheeting onto aluminum blanks and laminating the completed signs.

Estimates the amount of materials required and maintains work records including computerized work measurement and accounting systems.

Performs work in a shop or in the field.

Drives automotive equipment to and from work sites.

Make signs and posters by the silk screen process as needed.

Remove/abate lead paint as needed.

Work from swinging stage to paint signs on sides of buildings as needed.

Supervise subordinate workers involved in sign making and other painting duties as needed.

Requirements

TO QUALIFY FOR THE OPTION BELOW you must POSSESS and CLEARLY EXPRESS detailed years of experience performing relevant duties within your online job application under the Experience area and Supplemental Questionnaire.

Six years of sign painting experience including the preparation of surfaces design layout and gold or silver leaf lettering which includes utilizing computerized graphic design software and equipment one year of which must have been at the journeylevel*.

Special Requirement Information:
*Journeylevel experience means working independently with minimal mentorship on choosing problemsolving methods finding regulations and following procedures accurately.

License:
A valid California Class C Driver License is required at the time of appointment to perform jobrelated essential functions.

Physical Class:
3 Moderate. This class requires that you stand or walk most of the time with bending stooping squatting twisting reaching working on irregular surfaces occasional lifting objects weighing over 25 pounds and frequent lifting of 1025 pounds.

Other Requirements:
Vision: Keen color perception.

Our Assessment Process:
First meet our requirements above. After that our process includes a structured oral interview assessing job knowledge knowledge of computer design software and associated equipment interpersonal skills customer service skills and oral communication skills weighted at 100.

Attaining a passing score of 70 or higher on the assessment is required to be added onto the list of eligible candidates on the Eligible Register.

Eligibility Information:
The names of candidates receiving a passing score in the assessment will be placed on the Eligible Register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve 12 months following the date of promulgation. Passing this examination and being placed on the Eligible Register does not guarantee an offer of employment.

Applications will be processed on an asreceived basis and promulgated to the Eligible Register accordingly.

No person may compete for this examination more than once every twelve 12 months.

Special Information:
Shift: 5/40 work schedule. Appointees may be required to work nights weekends holidays and overtime.
