Fuel Portfolio Analyst Coordinator

Position Summary

Is responsible for collecting and processing fuel and transportation data relevant to the Fuel Supply area. Fuel refers to coal biomass RDF fuel oil or other combustible materials used for the generation of electricity. Processes data into performance metrics for senior management and corporate stakeholders in order to gauge the performance of the fuel delivery process. Provides technical leadership in commodity procurement and transportation service acquisition strategies. Identifies trends as well as procurement and transportation process optimization. Interfaces with forward analysis in order to ensure that generation Plexos model and performance metric impact on the Fuel procurement plan is accurately reflected in fuel and transportation commercial obligations. Supports the critical budgetary and fuel planning process.

Essential Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a database of metrics relevant to the fuel procurement process.
• Model existing contractual agreements. Develop optionality and creative solutions to contractual issues.
• Design and perform quantitative studies of historical and forecasted commodity prices.
• Identify opportunities to improve procurement system operations. Design and create analytical studies to model opportunities for cost savings and alternative procurement strategies.
• Analyze and forecast future fuel and transportation market trends at strategic decision points.
• Support corporate regulatory compliance activities related to fuel procurement activities.
• Support resource planning activities as it relates to the fuel and logistics arena.

Minimum Requirements for Fuel Portfolio Analyst Coordinator $82800$117600

• Bachelors degree in engineering finance or related field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in the energy industry.
• Coal power energy and/or transportation experience desirable.
• Significant experience working on detailed technical matters complex modeling and the optimization of commodity and transportation services contracts.
• Strong analytical organizational and communication skills.

Commercial Operations Specialist

Position Summary

Supports Xcel Energys Commercial Operations group in ensuring the real time energy demands of its customers are met. Develops knowledge and expertise by completing a series of assignments in the Power Operations Gas Supply and Energy Scheduling groups. Acquires utility industry knowledge and proficiency in the skill sets needed to advance into other roles within the Commercial Operations group.

Essential Responsibilities

• Power System Operations: Under the supervision of experienced staff learn to coordinate and maintain hourly energy balance between demand and supply requirements. Assist with dispatching generation facilities and purchase power resources with economic consideration to maintain system reliability. Learn to maximize the economic benefit to the system by identifying additional trading opportunities available through the open market. Pursue NERC certification to become qualified to independently dispatch.
• Gas Supply: Under the supervision of experienced staff coordinate the scheduling and nomination process for gas supply transportation and storage volumes.
• Energy Scheduling: Assist in scheduling physical energy purchases and sales with Balancing Areas counterparties and energy marketers.
• Training: Develop general operational knowledge within Commercial Operations across all three operating companies. Expand functional knowledge of Xcel Energys core businesses beyond Commercial Operations.
• Staffing Coverage: Once proficiency is developed in the above areas (Power System Operations Gas Supply Energy Scheduling) provide staffing coverage as needed in an area by independently performing the responsibilities of the role in times of high workload or staffing shortages.

Minimum Requirements for Commerical Operations Specialist $71900$102100

• Bachelors degree in finance accounting economics or other field with an emphasis in analytical thinking (i.e. mathematics social science fields etc..
• Six years of experience may be substituted for a Bachelors degree.
• Working knowledge of power system operations energy industry structure gas scheduling or a logisticsbased industry is a plus.
• Must be able to handle time pressured deadlines on an hourly and daily basis.
• Ability to work 12hour shifts with partial work on nights and weekends when working in Power Operations and partial oncall availability over weekends when working in Gas Supply is required.
