About this position

The Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind is seeking a Residential Supervisor for 2nd Shift.

This is a 10month classified position with state benefits including health insurance retirement life insurance and disability coverage.

This job will start with theschool year and is a 10month classified position.

Job Duties

Provide program support and supervision of students and staff to ensure that a structured program of care is implemented
Assist in identifying and developing program needs
Assist the Director of Student Life in the establishment maintenance and evaluation or programs and services for all residential students
Collaborate across departments to coordinate services for students
Coordinate and schedule activities which occur during residential hours to ensure that policies and procedures are followed
Serve as the lead residential point of contact for behavior management
Assist with the development of behavior programs to meet the needs of individual students
Provide training and guidance to staff related to student issues
Maintain logs files reports and other documentation related to residential programs and services as required by VSDB policies

Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to implement a comprehensive structured program of care in a safe nurturing environment.

Demonstrated knowledge of principles methods techniques and practices involved in residential and developmental services.

Demonstrated experience and leadership in program development and evaluation.

Demonstrated experience in staff supervision and evaluation.

Demonstrated experience in behavioral management techniques.

Knowledge of crisis warning signs and deescalation and intervention techniques.

Knowledge of child development theory and childcare practices.

Knowledge of the needs of students who are deaf and/or visually impaired.

Demonstrated experience in of medical management.

Ability to work within a team and to communicate and collaborate effectively with direct services support professional and administrative staff.

Ability to develop collaborative relations with parents families and a variety of community agencies.

Ability to establish and maintain a positive respectful and collaborative residential and work environment.

Ability to perform instructional personal care and support tasks and to plan and implement activity programs for students who are deaf and/or visually impaired.

Proficiency level of Advanced in American Sign Language as measured by the Sign Communication Proficiency Interview or agreement to acquire the specified level within three years.

Additional Considerations

Associates degree from a regionally accredited college or university (a high school diploma or General
Education Development (GED) Certificate and considerable experience in residential programs may
substitute for the educational requirement).
Bachelors Degree preferred.
Supervisory experience in a residential setting preferred.
CPR and First Aid Certification or agreement to obtain following school policies.
Experience working with children with disabilities residential programs and behavior management.
Valid Virginia Drivers License with driving record that reflects a sense of responsibility for highway and
passenger safety. Ability to drive a 10passenger van minivan or a car.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform repetitive motion to include standing sitting reaching lifting
walking bending and climbing.
