Position Summary
As a Project Accountant in Modas Accounting department you will support accounting management with various nonrecurring projects and initiatives. You will also be responsible for assigned portions of the monthly and quarterly close process ensuring alignment with standard close procedures and the rest of the financial accounting and finance teams. This role requires developing a foundational knowledge of all Moda entities to effectively tackle future accounting projects. This role is well suited for someone with a strong accounting background who seeks an individual contributor role with frequent team interaction and exposure to management focused heavily on projectbased work. Success in this role requires a flexible mindset with a teamfirst attitude as you will serve as a resource for various areas within the financial accounting and Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) teams. This is a fulltime hybrid position based in Portland Oregon.
Pay Range
$64394.27 $80498.01 annually.
Actual pay is based on qualifications. Applicants who do not exceed the minimum qualifications will only be eligible for the low end of the pay range.

Required Skills Experience & Education:
- Bachelors degree in accounting or finance; accounting preferred.
- 2 years public accounting or GL accounting experience; CPA preferred but not required.
- Strong understanding of accounting concepts including GAAP; SAP understanding preferred.
- Strong analytical and problemsolving skills including understanding of TAccounts and ability to work through difficult accounting scenarios.
- Experience with various forms of financial reporting including preparation of financials footnotes and both electronic and hard copy tie outs.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a group as well as drive and maintain individual ownership.
- Strong verbal written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet strict deadlines as well as ability to maintain flexibility to shift priorities and reprioritize.
- Strong timemanagement and organization skills; ability to move multiple work streams forward at once and actively prioritize projects.
- Proficiency with Microsoft applications (Word Excel PowerPoint). Use of pivot tables VLOOKUPs and other moderately difficult Excel functions required.
- Willingness to work additional hours when necessary.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and project a professional business image with both internal and external parties.
Primary Functions:
- Collaborate with accounting and finance management on the preparation and of organizationwide projects in various areas including documenting accounting processes endtoend business processes assessing and improving reports through automation developing internal controls conducting regulatory compliance research and analysis and troubleshooting and enhancing account reconciliations.
- Perform assigned monthly close tasks such as journal entries and various accompanying analyses.
- Perform assigned areas of FP&A function including monthly budget vs actual analysis financial statement proformas reconciliation of actuarial vs accounting data and RiskBased Capital (RBC) forecasting.
- Contribute to Modas Model Audit Rule (MAR) compliance including preparing monthly controls working with other stakeholders towards MAR compliance such as reviewing process narratives and control testing with Internal Audit.
- Perform assigned areas of quarterly financial reporting.
- Support income tax related matters including Prepared by Client (PBC) documents for Modas tax return and provision work corresponding with tax preparers various filing matters and preparing annual tax provision entries and reconciliations.
- Conduct technical research as required and apply findings to Modas entities.
- Prepare technical accounting memos complete with Accounting Standards Codification (ASC) or Statutory Statement of Accounting Principle (SSAP) research TAccounts and journal entries (JE).
- Develop expertise in financial accounting and reporting intricacies of Modas regulated entities becoming a resource on the General Ledger (GL) team regarding state regulators and auditors.
- Cross trains to learn various accounting roles on GL team to provide coverage for consolidation executive reporting and other key functions.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure financial statements and analyses are accurately completed understanding key sources of data such as key reports and spreadsheets.
- Prepare various schedules including standalone entity financial statements supporting the annual external audit.
- Stay informed of current accounting issues including both Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP).
- Exhibit ownership over key responsibilities improve operations and streamline work processes for efficiency.
- Perform other duties or projects as assigned.
Contact with Others & Working Conditions
- Office environment with extensive close PC and keyboard work constant sitting and phone work. Must be able to navigate multiple screens. Work in excess of 40 hours per week including evenings and occasional weekends to meet business need.
- Internally with the accounting department and other teams. Externally with auditors state regulators and various plan partners requiring meeting attendance and participation.
