Head of Schools/Principals/School Nurse/Assistant Director Health Services
School Health Paraprofessionals assist in the nonprofessional aspects of the school health program as determined by the school nurse. School health paraprofessionals service a variety of schools and travel is necessary.
Responsibilities
- Assist the school nurse with mandated screenings immunizations and physical examination preparations weighing measuring and recording data on school health records.
- Acts as liaison between school personnel and family/community including home visits.
- Escorts students between health room and classroom when indicated.
- Computerizes health information following inservice training.
- Attends students in the health room utilizing universal precautions as necessary.
- Assist students with toileting including diapering if needed.
- Performs other duties including maintaining health records photocopying sending notices home to parents filling Medicaid and other insurance forms.
- Participates in school staff activities as appropriate for a faculty member.
- Assists Principal/Headmaster in nonhealth paraprofessional duties in the absence of the school nurse.
- Performs other related duties as requested by the school nurse/principal/Headmaster/Assistant Director Health Services.
Qualifications Required:
- Education: High school diploma or GED
- Fortyeight 48 Credit Hours of College Coursework or an Associates Degree or a passing score on one of the two following Formalized Standardized Assessments: ParaPro Assessment or WorkKeys Certificate of Proficiency for Teacher Assistants experience and ability working with administrators teachers and students and parents.
- Demonstrated experience and ability in assisting with team instruction
- Good personal characteristics including selfdiscipline maturity selfconfidence professionalism dedication responsiveness to supervision.
- Valid drivers license and access to an automobile.
- Current authorization to work in the United States Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.
Qualifications Preferred:
- Experience as a teacher counselor paraprofessional or intern or trainee in a program for children and or adolescents.
- Bachelors Degree.
- Certification as a teacher or license as a social worker.

The start and end times of BPS schools vary as do the lengths of the school day. Some BPS schools have a longer school day through the Schedule A Expanded Learning Time (ELT) agreement.
