A tour worker welcomes visitors to the Open House Tours events informs them about the activities available enforces safety and communicates with Brookhaven National Lab staff and volunteers throughout the event. Tour workers act as bus guides and assist with the transportation of visitors to and from facilities and other locations as necessary.
Tour workers will be trained to meet all Laboratory requirements for this position. Employment will begin on June 26 2025 and terminate on September 14 2025. Days of work include one day of paid training and four 4 Open House Tour Days for a total of five 5 days of work. Employees will be paid an hourly wage commensurate with their experience and education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
A Open House Tours tour workers tasks include but are not limited to:
Welcoming and informing visitors about the days activities locations and schedule.
Communicating clearly to visitors.
Acting as bus guide and speaking about BNL while visitors are traveling on bus to facility and back.
Being friendly and accommodating to all visitors.
Ensuring that people move around safely especially on and off buses and into and out of buildings and stay in permitted areas.
Contacting and communicating information to emergency response in the event of an emergency.
Preparing for the activities on an Open House Tour includes moving and unpacking boxes and bags and setting up displays of informational items like posters or other items on tables and cleaning up and putting materials away at days end.
Greeting assisting and escorting visitors with safety in mind.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Ideal candidates will have completed at least one year of postsecondary education and/or have experience working with the public.
Must be available to attend mandatory training on Thursday June 26 and work Sundays June 29 July 13 August 3 and September 14.
Experience working with the public and/or community or public events.
Excellent verbal communication skills.
Capable of following verbal instructions.
Problem solving and time management skills.
Preferred Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of and interest in scientific fields and/or processes.
Environmental Safety and Health Considerations:
Ability to stand for long periods of time to be active outdoors in high temperatures and to lift up to 15 lbs.
Ability to go up and down stairs on buses in buildings and throughout the site as directed.
Must be able to work outside and be on your feet for up to 6 hours with breaks.
Brookhaven Laboratory is committed to providing fair equitable and competitive compensation. This is a temporary role and the hourly pay range for this position is $16.50 $22.00 / hour. Compensation offers will be commensurate with the final candidates qualifications and completed education.
