Job Description
Position Summary
The Opportunity:This position will report to the Maintenance Supervisor and will be required to independently perform semiskilled work in areas such as but not limited to carpentry plumbing electrical HVAC and mechanical for the Facilities department at the Mount Vernon Campus.
This is a fulltime classified position at the Mount Vernon Campus. Hours of work are typically 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The Location:Skagit Valley College is on the traditional and unceded territories of the Coast Salish Peoples especially on Swinomish Indian Tribal Community Upper Skagit Indian Tribe Samish Indian Nation Nooksack Indian Tribe and SaukSuiattle Indian Tribe. Located in a geographically diverse region between the dynamic metropolitan hubs of Seattle and Vancouver BC SVC is never far from worldclass outdoor recreation urban arts scenes and local cultural events. Duties and Responsibilities
Maintenance and repair functions
- Work independently on semiskilled maintenance assignments throughout the campus;
- Work under the technical direction of journeylevel workers in plumbing electrical HVAC and other trades on occasion;
- Maintain irrigation and sprinkler systems programming controllers and winterizing;
- Repair and remodel buildings frame walls hang and finish sheetrock patch holes in walls and paint;
- Repair and/or replace electric wall heaters electric stoves and undercounter microwave ovens and perform other electrical work as assigned;
- Repair and/or replace toilets sinks faucets garbage disposals and perform other plumbing assignments;
- Rebuild cabinets and perform other carpentry work as assigned;
- Change filters and perform periodic maintenance on HVAC systems;
- Repair and/or replace indoor and outdoor light fixtures change bulbs and ballasts;
- Respond to campus emergency repair requests;
- Perform building inspections to identify maintenance issues.
- Operate automotive equipment to transport materials and supplies;
- Pick up campus garbage and deliver to solid waste facility;
- Move or rearrange classroom furniture and equipment and move and set up furniture for special events;
- Perform the duties of Maintenance Mechanic for Districtwide projects on an occasional basis;
- Perform the duties of a Maintenance Custodian when needed.
- Prioritize work orders and complete assignments with minimal supervision;
- Ensure labor hours are reported on a timely basis for HR processing;
- Respond to emails check for work orders on Megamation maintenance management software;
- Navigate a work order management system daily to accurately describe and report labor and material resources utilized.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge or understanding of:- Safety standards rules and procedures;
- Applicable local federal and state building and compliance codes;
- HVAC and mechanical standard procedures and practices;
- Principles of HVAC and refrigeration system operations;
- Basic plumbing codes and standard practices;
- Basic electrical concepts codes and standard practices;
- Carpentry compliance codes and standard practices;
- Painting safety practices;
- Mechanical work;
- Routine maintenance procedures.
- Performing maintenance and mechanic work; communicating effectively with coworkers supervisors students and staff;
- Skilled in researching and diagnosing a problem and repairing fixing or solving the problem in a satisfactory manner.
- Apply appropriate skills in trades such as electrical plumbing HVAC painting etc.
- Read blueprints and appropriate manuals;
- Use tools and equipment related to the particular trades.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school graduation or GED
- 2 years of fulltime experience in building and equipment maintenance construction repair work or equivalent education and experience;
- Possession of a valid Washington State motor vehicle operators license and Insurance;
- Possession of Washington State Pesticide License within the first year.
Salary Benefits Conditions of Employment Application Procedure About SVC
- Salary is based on Range 44 Step G $4410per month with periodic increments to $4987per month.Salary placement is typically made at the starting salary for the range. Placement higher in the range may be considered for qualifications and experience. Salary and benefits are subject to change in accordance with legislative mandates and collective bargaining agreements.
- This position is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act.
- This is a unionrepresented position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
