POSITION TITLE: Senior Associate Regional Director California

REPORTS TO: Deputy Regional Director

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Assist in supervising program staff and interns including contributing to their hiring training and evaluation. May directly supervise one or more support staff.

LOCATION: San Francisco CA

Grade/Class: Grade G Exempt PSAEligible

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Assist the Deputy Regional Director and Regional Director in planning developing and implementing advocacy initiatives program activities and services in the community to advance ADLs mission within the assigned region. Respond to and review to the regions work related to advocacy coalition building and community outreach communications incident response Jewish community engagement law enforcement engagement publicfacing programming and young leadership development. Assist the Deputy Regional Director and Regional Director in the administration of the office including office management budget preparation and staff supervision where appropriate. It is estimated that this role will have a 60 time allocation to northern California and Hawaii and a 40 allocation to supporting statewide advocacy across California.

Responsibilities

Primary:

  • Support team in implementing ADL programs and projects identifying opportunities to respond to the environment or proactively drive missionbased conversations.
  • Work with programmatic staff to achieve the goals outlined in the regions operating plan and implement ADLs strategic priorities.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Policy and division team on planning and of statebased legislation and local government initiatives.
  • Conduct outreach to Jewish and nonJewish communities and constituents to educate community members and the public about ADLs mission and reporting antisemitic incidents and hate crimes.
  • Assist in the planning and of advocacy initiatives across the region.
  • Participate in government affairs activities maintaining regular contact with state and local officials as well as with Jewish communal leaders and community members. Advocate for ADL issues in state and local legislature.
  • Assist Deputy Regional Director and Regional Director in planning and implementing advocacy and legislative initiatives at the federal state and local levels to advance ADLs mission within the assigned region.
  • Respond to and resolve the most complex or sensitive complaints of discrimination antisemitic incidents and other civil rights issues.
  • Attend community events on behalf of ADL to promote public awareness of ADLs mission and extend ADLs reach throughout the Central Pacific Region.
  • Implement ADL programs and projects tailoring them to local community needs and issues. Conduct training sessions as applicable regarding the abovelisted initiatives.
  • Work with Associate Regional Director to develop and implement community outreach including initiatives and joint ventures with elected leaders and diverse interfaith and crosscultural organizations active within the region such as leaders in the African American Hispanic and Latino Muslim LGBTQ Asian American and other community and faith groups.
  • Represent ADL and present in a variety of forums to promote public awareness of ADLs mission.
  • Assist in the recruitment and supervision of office administrative support staff. Select and supervise interns. Ensure the smoothfunctioning of the regional office in the absence of the Deputy Regional Director or Regional Director.
  • Organize Regional Board meetings and engagement programs.
  • Undertake special projects and crossregional assignments as needed.

Qualifications

Skills:

  • High degree of tact and discretion.
  • Proven diplomatic and conflict resolution skills are required.
  • Excellent administrative organizational and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Proven ability to work with and influence a wide variety of people.
  • Strong public speaking and writing skills are required.
  • Ability to multitask is essential. Basic computer skills are needed.

Work Experience:

  • The ideal candidate has significant and years of progressively responsible community outreach experience including program and operational management.
  • Preferred experience managing relationships and engagement opportunities for volunteer leadership of notforprofit organizations campaigns or other relevant groups.
  • Preferred experience within ADL or peer organization.

Education:

  • A Bachelors degree or equivalent experience plus additional related college courses or professional

Work Environment:

  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends when necessary to represent ADL and to attend community events.
  • Some travel within the region is required. Occasional overnight travel is required.
  • ADL is a hybrid environment; this role may require 3 days in the office.
