Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills policies and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entrylevel professionals and/or support employees.
Engages in Departmental problemsolving for organizational issues; makes recommendations for Department efficiencies and advancement.
Report any crimes to the Clery Compliance Officer and complete annual training prescribed by the Clery Compliance Officer. Stays abreast of pending and final changes to the Clery Act and other laws or regulations affecting Clery Act provisions. Analyzes criminal activity reports and security reports to determine the classification for Clery including the campus crime log. Assists in the training of key Boise State stakeholders on Clery Act requirements.
Assists with conducting open source intelligence investigations and background checks related to threat assessment cases or criminal investigations.
Gather crime and disciplinary referral data from various internal and external sources such as the Office of the Dean of Students and local law enforcement agencies. Consolidates relevant data from these sources with information and policies from across institutional departments.
Public Safety Standard Employee Responsibilities:
Ensures customer service for the entire Department and campus community.
Engages in Departmental problemsolving for organizational issues; makes recommendations for Department efficiencies and advancement.
Represents the Department and the Division in select working groups committees and partnerships both internal and external to the University.
Renews job knowledge by reading professional journals participating in educational opportunities and belonging to professional organizations.
Represent the Department and the Division in select working groups committees and partnerships both internal and external to the University.
Engages the entire campus community through workshops and training programs designed to enhance the student experience and the safety and security of all community members
Ability to exercise discretion when dealing with confidential matters and information.
Campus Security Authority: This position is identified as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) per the federal law known as the Clery Act. Per this law the employee is required to report any crimes that they become aware of to the Clery Compliance Officer. Additionally CSAs are required to complete annual training prescribed by the Clery Compliance Officer.
Backgrounds Program:
Directly supports Boise State Universitys Department of Public Safety hiring program with the fulfillment of preemployment background check requests for all DPS employees including recurring updates as required.
Provides background check information as required for Housing and Residence Life applicants.
Acts as the primary contact for external law enforcement requests for background information requests.
Fulfills Exclusion appeal process background checks as needed.
Manages and compiles statistical data as required for maintenance and tracking of all backgrounds performed.
Assists with management and production of baseline backgrounds in support of the Student Intervention Team and CARE Analyst.
Provides backgrounds for the weapons on campus approval process.
Stays abreast of open source and information collection best practices and industrystandard tools and techniques.
Maintains communication and partnership with campus partners (including Housing and Residence Life Title IX Dean of Students etc. as well as Boise Police Department officers and dispatchers.
Maintains familiarity with the Clery Act HEOA HEA and FERPA.
Support for Crime Analysis and Threat Assessment:
Completes public records requests for information related to police incidents as needed.
Coordinates special projects and assignments including supporting the planning and production of the annual Idaho Threat Assessment Conference.
Assists with onboarding administration and maintenance of records management system for the Crime Analysis/Threat Assessment Unit.
Assists with monitoring of special events occurring on or near campus. as needed.
Review arrest reports and partnership data to determine campus affiliations.
May perform other duties as needed.
Knowledge of social media programs and websites; open source investigations; law enforcement policies and practices; local state and federal laws; and University policies and procedures
Knowledge and understanding of the intent and requirements of the Clery Act as well as familiarity with HEOA HEA and FERPA
Ability to develop the capability to internally measure and forecast public safetyrelated activity and the capacity to analyze this activity to contribute to problemsolving intervention and reduction efforts
Ability to compile analyze and present statistical data
Ability to utilize appropriate software
Ability to exercise discretion when dealing with confidential matters and information
Bachelors Degree or equivalent plus 2 years experience.
