Summary of Job Duties:
**This position will work remotely**The Certified Procedural Coding Specialist Inpatient reads and interprets health record documentation to identify all diagnoses and procedures that affect the current inpatient encounter visit and assesses the adequacy of the health record documentation to ensure it supports all diagnoses and procedures to which codes are assigned; completes final review of medical record and selects appropriate ICD10 and CPT codes within designated deadlines; reviews documentation to match appropriate codes with documentation for medical necessity; reviews records upon admission and periodically throughout hospitalization to assign working diagnosis and DRG expected length of stay and identification of Core Measure cases as assigned; collaborates with Clinical Documentation Specialists II to identify and address deficiencies.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Must have an understanding of CPT and ICD10.
- One of the following certifications: CCA CCS CPC RHIT or RHIA. Must obtain CCS within 12 months of hire.
Preferred Qualification:
- Associates or Bachelors in Health Information Management.
- Two 2 years of coding experience.
Additional Information:
Assesses the adequacy of the health record documentation to ensure it
supports all diagnoses and procedures to which codes are assigned apply
knowledge of anatomy and physiology clinical disease processes
pharmacology and diagnostic and procedural terminology to assign
accurate codes to diagnoses and procedures.
Maintains understanding of ICD10 and CPT coding classification systems.
Reviews and performs data charge entries to both hospital and physician
patient accounting systems for the outpatient clinic visit.
Organizes work to ensure all assigned work queues are reviewed and
appropriately prioritized on a daily basis.
Performs other duties as assigned.
