Job Description

St. Norbert College (SNC) a nationallyranked private Catholic liberal arts college is seeking a Head Softball Coach. This position is charged with fulfilling the duties and responsibilities below. The coach is expected to follow all NCAA Conference and College policies.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Instruct and work with studentathletes to prepare them for competition. Help athletes to enhance athletic performance individually or as a team unit. Understand the rules strategies and techniques of the sport. Teach studentathletes how to use sports equipment efficiently and safely. Organize and conduct practice sessions throughout the day as needed.

  • With the assistance of the Director of Athletics defines and achieves annual enrollment goals of the programs. Recruits qualified studentathletes to participate in the program. Recruiting is by direct mailings handwritten notes electronic telephonic and inperson (travel required) means. Assumes responsibility for the retention and matriculation process for studentathletes in their athletic and academic endeavors.

  • Manage funds by preparing the budget and exercising authority for all expenditures related to the program. Responsible for fundraising efforts on behalf of the programs.

  • Develop a competent and effective coaching staff by recruiting and hiring qualified applicants providing guidance on departmental or college policies and coaching philosophy encouraging professional development through participation in coaching decisions and recruiting activities making coaching assignments based upon qualifications supervising coaching activities and evaluating performance.

  • Teach approximately 12 activity courses in physical education annually.

Supervision Exercised Over:

  • 24 parttime assistant coaches and 15 student workers.


Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree required (Masters Degree preferred).

  • Dedication to working in a missiondriven environment with a profound respect for and commitment to preserving the rich traditions of Catholicism Norbertine values and the liberal arts.

  • Strong ability to recruit studentathletes in the context of NCAA Division III philosophy.

  • Excellent communication organization and time management skills.

  • Able to multitask prioritize and meet deadlines in fastpaced noisy environments.

  • Professional and composed in customer and coworker interactions including conflict resolution.

  • Proficient in basic math and familiar with Microsoft Office and Google Apps with a willingness to learn new tools.

  • Exercises sound judgment and sets a positive example for others.

  • Experienced in planning and executing events programs and projects.

  • Confident presenter to large audiences 100 people).

The College may consider any equivalent amount of credentials licensures training or experience that provides the necessary knowledge skills and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of this job.
