You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe Department of Community and Regional Planning (CRP) in the College of Design at Iowa State University (ISU) invites applications for the position of Assistant Teaching Professor. The appointment for this position is anticipated to begin August 16 2025 and the initial length of the appointment will be one academic year until May 15 2026 with the possibility of renewal.
The department currently has a need for a candidate who can contribute by teaching an urban planning studio as well as a world cities/globalization/International development class. The preferred candidate would also be able to contribute to teaching in one or more of the following areas:
Housing
Small town and Rural Planning
Site Planning and Development
The successful candidate will contribute to the missions of the Department and College by teaching core planning courses and electives at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate should be able to develop a studio course that works with a local or regional jurisdiction teach a variety of courses and contribute to existing courses in the oncampus accredited planning programs (BSCRP)(MCRP). Candidates should have strong communication skills and experience working with a range of communities and share our commitment to enhancing excellence and supporting the mission of the department college and university.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Masters degree in Urban Planning Geography Public Policy Rural Sociology Communication Community Development or a related field
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Urban Planning Geography Public Policy Rural Sociology Communication Community Development or a related field
Documented teaching experience
Experience with online instruction
Prior professional experience in the practice of planning community development or a closely related field by the start of employment

The Department of Community and Regional Planning is one of only 16 accredited undergraduate planning programs in the United States and we have an outstanding international faculty who are committed to excellence in the teaching of planning at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Through the departments degree programs students develop the skills and experience to become practicing planning professionals in a variety of contexts. Students learn:
landuse planning and zoning
environmental planning
transportation planning
site planning
urban design
In addition our students regularly work with real communities to understand the challenges and achievements of planning. We also undertake highquality research on behalf of federal and state government business the nonprofit sector and other funding agencies all of which feeds into the courses we teach to give our students a wellrounded foundation for their future careers.
