Duties and Responsibilities

Will be assigned to collateral areas focused in Campus Engagement and Social Connections (Programming/Conduct) Service Learning and Self Care (Student Basic Needs) and Cultural Competency (DEI and Cultural Programming)

LEADERSHIP & STUDENT PROGRAMMING:

  1. Responsible to provide leadership to assigned collateral areas to ensure the development coordination promotion and implementation of the programs resources and services.
  2. Responsible to promote and implement strong residential community among staff and residents.
  3. Works to provide an environment that compliments the residents individual educational goals and to provide growth and development opportunities for resident students.
  4. Aligns and incorporates Kaao Framework with educational programming with the residential curriculum in all of the three collateral focus areas in Diversity Inclusion and Equity Living Learning Communities (LLC)/First Year Experience and Support and Well BeingBasic Needs.
  5. Ability to create assessments to assess and evaluate educational programming offered to the students who live in the residence communities.
  6. Provide direct supervision and leadership to student staff assigned within the residential communities who will provide support to the residential curriculum and housing operation.
  7. Creates a partnership and works collaboratively with Student Engagement units across the Division Student Affairs.

ADMINISTRATIVE:

  1. Has administrative responsibilities for the development facilitation and implementation of assigned collateral areas to meet the educational cultural recreational and social needs of the residents with the assistance of the Assistant Community Living Coordinator and Community Living Assistants.
  2. Plans coordinates and supervises the daily operation of the residence hall including pre and post checkins/checkouts in partnership with Housing Operations
  3. Maintains regular office hours. Office hours are a balance of regular working day responsibilities and evening responsibilities (meetings attending community events maintaining community visibility etc.
  4. Regularly monitors facilities furnishings and building equipment. Collaborates with maintenance and housekeeping to assure that health and safety standards are met.
  5. Assists with recruitment selection placement training and evaluation of student staff.

ON CALL/CONDUCT/CRISIS

  1. Shares on call duty by rotating evenings weekend and holidays that is set for each fall/spring semesters with other live inResidence Life staff positions who are required to be on call.
  2. Living in the residence halls is a condition of employment and an essential factor in the Community Living Coordinators ability to perform his or her duties within the residence communities and a collaborative programming partner across campus.
  3. The value of the room is not taxable income and is not subject to income tax withholding social security medicare and FUTA taxes because the room is provided for convenience of University Housing and University.
  4. Advises residents and staff on social behavioral and academic concerns & initiates appropriate referrals.
  5. Responsible with the assistance of staff members for the security of the hall complex and the handling of emergencies (fire accidents security etc..
  6. Ensures that rule interpretation and enforcement by resident staff is within basic guidelines set by the Housing Office. Assist in the adjudication of policy violations.
  7. Informs and explains behavioral expectations to staff and students and influences the development of responsible behavior. Confronts & discusses behavioral issues with students and identifies necessary changes.
  8. Provides support and referral to students in crisis. Maintains collaborative relationships with offices outside housing that serve to meet student needs (Counselors Care Team Title IX Medical Services etc..
  9. Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in psychology social work counseling and guidance education human resource management business administration or related field and 1 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for the management of student residence halls or comparable group; or equivalent education/training or experience

  2. Functional knowledge of principles practices and techniques in residence hall operations demonstrated by knowledge understanding and ability to apply concepts terminology.
  3. Functional knowledge and understanding of principles theories federal and state laws rules regulations and systems associated with housing & residence halls.
  4. Demonstrated ability to recognize problems identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the area of housing and residence halls operations.
  5. Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation write reports and procedures and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team members and individuals.
  7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  8. Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated
  9. Considerable knowledge of postsecondary educational institute and student housing/residential life policies and procedures
  10. Knowledge of student activities programs.
  11. Ability to cooperatively work with diverse cultures and backgrounds including various segments of the university community organizations and residents.
  12. Knowledge of group living needs current student value systems and student personnel practices.
  13. Able to work independently able to organize set priorities and make decisions under pressure.

Desirable Qualifications

  1. Possession of masters degree in college student personnel higher education counseling or related fields and fulltime or graduate residence life experience.

  2. Considerable knowledge of postsecondary educational institute and student housing/residential life theories.
  3. Considerable knowledge of the University of Hawaii and/or University of Hawaii System programs policies and goals.
  4. Considerable knowledge of native Hawaiian customs and culture.
  5. Experience with Microsoft Windows or Apple applications.
