Performs a variety of clerical work in checking and processing material in accordance with established procedures for conformance with standard requirements and reference to a variety of established sources; posts information to records and files; may use word processing and other office equipment and technologies as an incidental assignment; and performs other related duties as required.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This class differs from that of Senior Clerk in that the Clerk performs a variety of clerical work in checking and processing a variety of clerical material in accordance with established procedures for completion accuracy and conformance with standard requirements with reference to a variety of established sources; whereas the Senior Clerk performs a variety of clerical work involving 1 the review refinement and verification of data 2 interpretation of rules and legal provisions 3 judgment in selecting or adapting alternative methods or procedures and 4 may supervise others in performing clerical work.
Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school and one 1 year of experience which demonstrated knowledge of English grammar spelling arithmetic common office equipment; and the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions speak and write simply and directly and compare words and numbers quickly and accurately.
License Requirement: Possession of a valid motor vehicle drivers license (equivalent to State of
Hawaii Type 3 may be required for specific positions.
Knowledge of: office practices and procedures; filing methods and systems; punctuation grammar spelling and word usage; use of standard office machines and equipment including personal computers peripheral equipment and software applications.
Ability to:
use a personal computer; make arithmetic computations; compare names and numbers rapidly and accurately; read and interpret written material; keep records; follow oral and written instructions; operate standard office machines and equipment; deal tactfully and effectively with the public and work harmoniously with others.
Qualified applicants will be required to take an online assessment. Applicants are required to test alone in a quiet distractionfree area using a reliable computer with a highspeed internet connection a microphone a webcam (internal or external) and a Windows or Apple Operating System. Applicants who do not meet the system requirements will be provided an opportunity to take the online assessment on site.
EXAMINATIONS ARE ADMINISTERED IN THE COUNTY OF MAUl ONLY
The above examination is being given on an opencompetitive basis to establish an eligible list which shall be effective for not more than one year unless extended by the Director of Personnel Services.

PreEmployment/PostOffer Drug Screening Test: All applicants who will enter a safety sensitive position or certain designated categories that the Personnel Services Director has established or who are required by law to be drug tested must pass a preemployment/postoffer drug screening test as a condition of employment. There is no retesting or reevaluation process. Cost for the drug screening test shall be borne by the County of Maui.
