Job Description Summary

The MUSC Shawn Jenkins Childrens Hospital is a pediatric level one academic trauma center. There are eight OR suites on level 3 and two minor ORs on level 2 which cover all pediatric surgical specialties including: Trauma Transplant Ortho Neuro ENT GUGYN Ophthalmology Plastics Dental General Surgery and Pediatric hearts. The nursing teams consists of 75 Registered Nurses and 25 Certified Surgical Technologist. RNs are trained to both scrub and circulate surgical procedures. The SJCH OR is a busy and dynamic nurse driven Magnet designated department that provides cuttingedge technology to the children of SC.

Scheduled Work Hours/Shift:Weekday Nights. 6p 630a; holidays and disaster team assignment required no call.

Job Summary/Purpose: Under general supervision the RN Charge Nurse manages the daily operational oversightto ensure effective delivery of patient care. This position interacts with members of the healthcare team to achieve desired results. The RN Charge Nurse consistently models excellence in patient care and contributes to unit leadership.

Minimum Training and Education:Bachelors degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing and a minimum oftwo years ofwork experience as a registered nurse in an OR or designated area of practicerequired. Attendance in the Charge Nurse Workshop and successful completion of the MUHA Charge Nurse CompetencyBased Orientation is required within 6 months of hire.

Required Licensure Certifications Registrations: Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Some positions require certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.

For every 100 additional pounds assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision corrected in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity with correction. (Continuous) Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Continuous) Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations.
