Reporting to the Dean of Student Support & Success counselors are responsible for providing clinical and outreach services to ensure consistent highquality care and support for students personal and academic success. Counselors provide consistent and timely response intervention and follow up when needed in response to mental health crises and emergencies.


The counselor will be a licensed mental health counselor or licensed psychologist with a demonstrated work history of providing mental health services in a mental health setting; professional confidence and sound judgment; success in building relationships and working collaboratively with key stakeholders; experience navigating complex systems; strong commitment to student development; a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion multicultural responsiveness; and strong negotiation and advocacy skills. Counselors must have a clear understanding of student development crisis intervention and knowledge of national trends and best practices in college student mental health.


Essential Duties:
  • The provision of counseling services outreach crisis response and consultation
  • Perform initial client evaluations and provide appropriate intervention mediation referral and followup
  • Personal/mental health career and student success counseling.
  • Address crisis and threat concerns and provide direct crisis and threat intervention appropriate referral and follow up
  • Be aware and manage clinical and liability issues
  • Provide faculty and staff with consultation on student behavioral concerns and classroom management to promote students development and academic success
  • Conduct educational workshops presentations and other campus outreach activities to engage with students in various settings
  • Collaborate and consult with members of the campus community to ensure safety of the campus community
  • Be a collaborative partner with student services departments and staff to include but not limited to Advising Student Life Athletics Student Accessibility Services Veteran & Military Student Services and other Student Support Programs
  • Maintain data and aid with the development of reports
  • Projects to support the Counseling Center functioning and goals
  • Participate in Shoreline governance department division and campusrelated professional activities.

Qualifications

Required Education & Experience:


Licenses:
  • Must be licensed as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC or LMHCA) or Licensed Psychologist in Washington State. If licensed as a LMHCA must be actively working towards licensure as a LMHC and work under the supervision of an approved supervisor to gain the supervision and supervised experience necessary to become a licensed mental health counselor.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness
  • Applicable RCWs WACs professional and ethical guidelines and HIPAA requirements as they apply to the mental health profession
  • Shortterm/brief model therapeutic models
  • Using personal computer Word Excel database programs Internet email software and other forms of technology and electronic records management e.g. SimplePractice
  • Effective oral/written communication with individuals at all levels inside and outside the College
  • Commitment to equity and inclusion and multicultural responsiveness supporting the work of inclusive excellence equity social justice and advocacy.
  • Working and interacting effectively with colleagues staff students administrators and others of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds

Conditions of Employment

Physical Work Environment:
This position is primarily oncampus with some opportunity for remote work depending on Counseling Center needs. For remote work faculty will need to provide their own workspace and internet access noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs. For oncampus inperson assignments work is usually performed in a office space that requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time.

Terms of Employment:
This is a parttime nontenured quartertoquarter assignment. Salary is dependent upon the number of contact hours for this assignment as provided in the agreement with the Shoreline Community College Federation of Teachers. Hiring of this position is contingent upon available funding as determined by the College President.
